Social Conflict, Structural Functionalism Paradigm
The three main paradigms in sociology are social conflict, Structural functionalism and Symbolic interactionism. These paradigms are known as a set of concepts and theories that guides our perspective on certain concepts in society. If a person applies the theory of social conflict then he/she thinks of the world as a hierarchy of inequalities .They usually sees life as a competition and focuses on the distribution of resources and power. If a person considers themselves as a functionalist then they hold the view that society is made up of interlocking systems. They believe that everyone contributes to society as a whole and each person has their own part in society. If a person is a symbolic interactionist then He/she focuses on using the

An example of this would be The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, perfect example is that of the cane farmers association in northern Belize.(explain).Looking at inequality from a structural functionalism point of view, inequality on a whole is functional for society because it encourages competition which motivates people to rise to the top. An example in Belize would be the fact that not every individual has access to the same type of healthcare. Whether or not you get the best medical treatments depends on factors such as gender race and of course your economic status. So basically if you have money you can easy get medicines see doctors and pay for medical procedures such as surgery. Lastly if we were to look at inequality from the symbolic interactionism perspective inequality is subjective and based on our own interpretations as individuals. For example we are expected to know how to define ourselves from a young age. At least by the age of four years old we are expected to know our gender. We then develop a sense of what it means to be a male or female based on the people we interact with such as our parents, other family members and friends. Being a boy or girl is socially constructed to the language what we tell them. For example we keep on saying that little boys are not supposed to play with
