This theory supports that sex and gender is determined by society. When a child is born a female, she automatically starts receiving pink, purple or anything that is known a girly. Same thing with the male. When he is born he does not receive pink blankets or things with flowers on them, he receives green, and blue blankets and things associated that are manly. Colors however are interchangeable with gender. Females like those colors too and males can even like pinks, purples, and polka dots. However it is a norm that children receive the societal norm colors. Blue for a boy and pink for a girl. All throughout a child’s life, parents, doctors and society assume that children will grow up to be a manly man that is powerful, rational, active, and even self-reliant or a female that is passive, emotional, crafty. It is never reversed. It is so embedded into society that no one realizes that they do those things because it is a societal norm. Anything outside that norm is morally not right for some people. As children grow up they take on the roles and play with toys. Females get to learn how to wash clothes, cook, clean, and more with toys that are small house appliances just especially made for them and boys get to play outside in the dirt, play with cars, trains.
