Through out history, society has stereotyped women, making it merely impossible for women to achieve her goals and desires in life. In life and in this county women have always been treated as second best by biased men. Women have always been treated like they are never good enough for careers outside of the home. The sex of a person should not determine what type of duties or what kind of job a person will have. It should be up to a person's own will not the decisions of society.…
Women today have the right to get a higher education if they want; they are in high ranking positions within our government and military. Women today are not looked at as just a house wife, in today’s trend we are seeing more and more men staying home to run the household. Women today also do not just have jobs in a so called “women’s job”, for example if a women wants to be a welder, or a mechanic she can be. Those are two jobs that when people picture that worker it is usually a man but not anymore. Even though women have made a lot of changes the biggest thing that they are fighting for now is equal pay. A lot of the jobs tend to pay women less money than men. Female business majors, for example, earned a little over $38,000, while men earned more than $45,000 (Ellis, 2012).You see a lot of concepts or constructions of masculinity and femininity in media but not so much in society. The media has a lot for commercials that can be focused on gender related products. Even though the product is mad for a man you will not see a woman as the character in the advertising and the same for women. Now society on the other hand has evolved so that there are not gender specific roles, as a large amount of women have what was once a man’s job such as an engineer or a firefighter. When we refer to what society has deemed gender specific that is hard as the lines are somewhat blurred because gender does not play as much…
At least once in every lifetime a human will experience unfairness. Unfortunately, this unfairness can become a trend and become an injustice. Injustice could mean violating the rights of others or going through an unfair action or treatment. In the 1830’s, Native Americans experienced social injustice and unfortunately social injustice still exists today, just with gender inequality, specifically women's rights.…

Male and female roles have changed dramatically since the beginning of the 21st century. Men were known as the bread-winners. Their responsibility was to go to work and bring home money to take care of their family. While women stayed at home and took care of all the cooking and cleaning. The female role also consisted of bearing and taking care of all the children. Things have changed women can also get good jobs and bring home as much money as men and sometimes even more money than men. In a major step forward, women demanded and were granted the right to vote in the United States in 1920s.Women should not have to stay at home and take…
Inequality is Contaminating America Currently in the United States, many may see that there is inequality, but have yet to do something about it. In the article The Toxic Tap by Josh Sanburn, he blatantly discusses Social Stratification that exist in America, more specifically, Flint Michigan. Sanburns’ article expresses the discrimination that Flint’s people faced during the change of the water supply from Lake Huron to Flint River. The Toxic Tap is referring to the Flints local river that has been the cause for many problems.…
Sexism against women- Sexism still pervades in our society. A clear example of this is the way Hillary Clinton was treated in the elections. Hillary faced many gender-based abuse by the media and many individuals. “Multiple studies on women in national security have shown concerns about the progression of women into senior leadership positions (Erbe, 2008).” Some feel women are inferior to men, this is clearly a form of sexism. Statistics from U.S. Bureau of Justice indicates that women are much more likely than men to experience “nonfatal intimate partner violence”. 30% of female homicide victims are estimated to have been killed by intimate partners in comparison to 5% male homicide victims. In the past, women were not included in higher education. When women were included in higher education , they were encouraged into majors that were less intellectual. Women have been excluded from participating in many professions. Based on a 2009 study conducted by Cornell University on the topic of CEOs, research suggests that while being obese limit’s the career opportunities of both women and men, being a bit overweight harms only female executives and may actually benefit male executives. There’s also a disparity of wages between men and women. Today, women earn 75% of the income of men. Research conducted suggest that mothers are 44% less likely to be…
America is known to be the land of the free and home of opportunity. However, there have been several injustices that have occurred over the years that has contradicted the “American dream.” One example is racism. Even though people now have the right to come to America legally, there are still many people that insult others because of racial background.…
One of the many things that American society has always struggled with is equality. Due to America's diversity, this is not surprising. Discrimination or stereotyping exist in all aspects of society. America has always dealt with this issue of inequality, dating back to its early beginning. Some of the most renowned examples of this are mistreatment of Native Americans, African slavery in America, and women's rights.…
As citizens we should follow the laws that supports one another. On the other hand, some laws in America are unjustified. It seem like some laws just want to keep people under control and not free . I truly believe if every citizen in America follow the law without problems the government will control our lives like puppets.…
When we hear the word “America” we often think of independence, opportunity, and success. Equal opportunity can be defined as every individual granted a fair chance and should be treated the same. The opportunity should overlook religion, race, sex, ethnicity, etc. For the last couple of weeks, we’ve been studying the nature of inequality and how it’s had a negative impact on society. From the outside looking in, it seems as if America is the land of equal opportunity, however, that is not accurate. The United States is not the land of equal opportunity. People of different races have to fight daily for fair opportunities. Inequality affects the ability of people who wants to improve the standards of their lives and contribution to society.…
If people aren’t earning enough a lot of money, all they need to do is work harder they’ll get ahead.…
Racial injustice in the United States is provoked not by the law of the land, but rather exists in the minds of its citizens. Legal prejudice, like segregation, ended long before now, however it is still a problem facing our nation today. Research and studies, as well as many Supreme Court cases can support the idea that racial injustice is a product of the mind rather than the law.…
