Social Issues In America

All humans live on earth and earth alone. They all share one world, one planet, and one universe. They only have each other to depend on when things get rough, but instead of standing together as one, they are broken apart by social issues that stand in their way. These social issues further damage the relationship between races, social classes and genders. They cause a rift among them and the gap might not be salvageable anymore. Arising social issues such as racism, classism and sexism disturb the once peaceful way of life and these issues are projected through one’s own action. The root of these social issues is the treatment of one race to another, one social class to the inferior ones and one gender to the opposite. They are very prevalent
It is to classify a certain race with certain characteristics even if there are no specific evidences about it. Ben Gallagher was a victim of racism because of the treatment he got in Singapore. He was seen as an ang moh or foreigner there and immediately, certain characteristics were linked to him. Locals already had a picture of people like Ben in their minds and they were not afraid to express what they thought: “You stay out of this. You foreigners think you are so high and mighty!” (26: part 1 ch. 2). In that scene in the story, Ben was trying to help a Filipino maid who came running to him for help. He asked the people what had happened and immediately the locals started to smash talk him. They kept on saying how foreigners seemed to enjoy meddling in their business, thinking that they were high and mighty but the truth is, these are just some characteristics the locals connect with foreigners. These attributes may or may not be true but racism has caused an automatic prejudice to different races. The locals did not stop to reflect on why Ben would help the maid but instead they immediately called him out as being intrusive because that was what is set in their
