Social Media Analysis: Trapped In Violence In Movies
Trapped in Violence’s mindset The more we are exposed to violence the less we take it seriously because of what is seen in movies, read in books, and accessed on social media. According to Barbara Osborn “TV and film criminals are 100% bad and they have no families…they deserve no sympathy and they get what they deserve”. So it says that as the story unfolds, outbreaks of violence against people and property make sure that viewers stay in their seats which means they take this as entertainment and not as a serious view. The movie producers want you to stay there and watch the violence instead of you resolving a problem with it if you do have to deal with the situation. It also indicated that no one mourns their death which means they want you to not start cry about it when it’s happening to you. It says “their lives are unimportant” so if someone that you care about dies it’s not important. They shouldn’t say someone dying is unimportant because people matter.
In this article it shows that violence in films gives people an idea to mimic and do it in reality. For example 2012 a guy named James Holmes had mimicked the Joker and killed 12 people at a

They get attracted to stuff during their childhood and if violence is exposed they will do the same thing and practice it during school. When their kids they can’t tell between what is good or bad and will try to do the same as what they seen before. Violence in television shouldn’t be allowed for anyone because it’s serious and common and can be taken in every place you go. Instead of viewing violence or practicing it there should be other activities or programs that are important and useful in our daily lives. Violence shouldn’t be seen as entertainment or as a hobby instead it should be prevented by making it stop in a safe and non-violent

Raiders of the Lost Ark is a violent, yet well loved film which would be interesting to examine in this light. In Raiders, the choice of perpetrator is our hero, Indiana Jones. We do not think of him as “a perpetrator”, he is “the good guy”, yet he is shown bringing about the demise of many people. Victims of violence can be portrayed as likeable, in which case the effect on the audience is to “increase fear and anxiety. If violence can happen to someone *like* me, it can also happen *to* me, they reason” (Valenti, 101), however, if “the victim is dissimilar to the viewer and NOT likable, the viewer can more easily either rationalize the violence or dismiss it because in some way the victim ‘got what he deserved’” (Valenti, 102). The victims in Raiders are Nazis, not “everyday Joes”, their characters are not individualized, or if they are, they are over-the-top evil, like Arnold Ernst Toht the sadistic and ruthless Nazi Gestapo agent (Raiders).…

We know that for the most part, children learn from both experience and social learning or role modeling. Therefore, when children, especially young children, see violence on television, they have a difficult time differentiating between what is real or what is make believe, and tend to emulate or copy what they are seeing. Furthermore, there is a chemical change in the brain, similar to that which is seen in post-traumatic stress disorder; if enough violence is viewed, the brain reacts as if the person doing the viewing has actually been abused. This is especially true if the violence is one sided, as in the case of sadistic violence. Now add to this the fact that children who watch violence on television have brains that are still developing, and you can see how really dangerous TV viewing can be.…

The media teaches teens that violence is acceptable. Children will try to imitate the things they see on television. For example in Toronto, a six year old boy wearing a Ninja Turtle costume stabbed his friend in the arm for not giving back a toy he had borrowed. When the child is young and watches shows that have violence in it like SpongeBob Square pants children will want more violence when they grow older. The more they grow the more violence they want. This makes them less sensitive to violence. Only 16% of shows actually show the long-term effects of violence.…

In the article “Unnatural Killers” John Grisham shows how violence in media can become a reality. It is about two teenagers who went on a killing spree immediately after watching Oliver Stone’s Hollywood production Unnatural Killers. The young couple replicated the actions of the two main characters in the movie. Grisham believes the movie Unnatural Killers is one of Hollywood’s failures because of the amount of influence it had on the young couple. To decrease these events Grisham suggests, “The first way would be a general boycott of similar films. If people refuse to purchase tickets to watch such orgy violence…similar movies wouldn’t be made” (325). Nevertheless, people still go out to see these movies and they are still being made. Oliver Stone’s movie showed murdering people as glamorous which can result in inclination of murder amongst young adults. Many would argue Oliver Stone is not the blame for their horrific actions, but his movie was misleading.…

During the past few years, more and more people have been discussing the topic of violent media to figure out if it triggers violent behavior to some people. Some media critics believe that young people play violent video games and read violent comic books as a safe place for kids to let out their aggression. Gerald Jones wrote a passage arguing that violent comic books and video games are useful for young people. He was taught as a little kid that violence was wrong and that anger was something you had to learn to overcome. While he was young, he was given violent comic books that also had good life lessons in them. Since those comic books Jones has been writing action movies and comic books, and made him into the man he is today. He believes…

The “cool” factor of these shows is actually kids becoming more and more desensitized to violence. Although these shows have not been proven to turn a normal child into a deviant. “Hundreds of studies of the effects of TV violence on children and teenagers have found that children may become "immune" or numb to the horror of violence. They may gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems, or imitate the violence they observe on television; and identify with certain characters, victims and/or victimizers…

Violence has become a major part of television shows increasing regularly. Many may think that it is only the shows that get the warning “viewer discretion is advised” are bad influences on people but I believe that all shows can have a negative influence. For example, in the 90’s cartoon show Spiderman, all he ever did was tie villains up with his webs. In today’s cartoon he hits them and draws blood when fighting the villains. As innocent as cartoon shows may seem I have seen the increase in violence in these shows. Children, especially young, are not ready to distinguish right from wrong so when their favorite action hero is beating up a bad guy, therefore kids get the impression that it is all right to do the same. Witnessing repeated violent acts can lead to desensitization and lack of empathy for human…

Movies, music, television shows, video games, none of these things actually make people commit crimes. Violence in the media and the real world rise in violence among children is not a cause but merely a coincidence. A person is an accumulation of their real life experiences. Children do not turn into a crazed maniac after playing a computer game or seeing a movie with violence. The easiest place to obtain a mind for violence is from a home setting. Adults want to find an outside source for the growth in violence among children instead of taking the blame first hand. It is the parents, those actually responsible for this corruption, who try to suggest otherwise and negligence on the part of those who seek to find a different cause. Adults seem to steer away from the increasingly true fact that our whole American society is doing this to its younger generation, and not just the media.…

In our society today, it is extremely important to pay attention to what influences children. One of the biggest influences America's youth may have is the television. It is possible for children to be pulled into the television's realistic world of violence with sometimes devastating results. The impact of television violence on youth behavior has been an issue for many years. Violent programs on television lead to negative behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs. The causal effect of television violence on aggression, even though it is not very large, exists. Jackass for one is a good example on kid's influences to do bad things. They see people doing things so they believe its ok for them to do, but they end up 6 feet under or paralyzed for life. With the explicitness of sex on television expresses young adults to go out and have sex. That's why we have such uproar in population. Sex In the City, and Friends express that to children's eyes all over, and they get that in their heads that they can be like the people they see. In today's world it's not about being ourselves, it's about trying to be like other people.…

Entertainment media are means of transmitting information or programs from one point to another. Some of these media include television shows, films, video games, and music. Unfortunately, some of these programs portrayed in these media have moved from entertainment to portraying violence, so many people, especially the young ones tend to mimic what they see in films. There is no doubt then that the prevalence of violence in America society is caused by violence portrayed in the entertainment media e.g. television, video games, and music.…

First of all, there is way too much violence on television whether it is on some prime time channel, or even a Saturday morning cartoon program. For some prime time TV shows, there are three to five hours violent acts per hour. For every Saturday program for kids, there are around twenty to twenty-five violent acts per hour. (Frazier) This shows how much violence there is on “children shows”. In a sample for the National Television Violence Study, it was found that around sixty percent of ten-thousand television programs contained violent material. (Kunkel) That is a lot! That study “identified an average of 6,000 violent interactions in a single week of programming across the 23 channels that were examined, including both broadcast and cable networks. More than half of the violent shows (53%) contained lethal acts, and one in four of the programs with violence (25%) depicted the use of a gun.” (Kunkel) That means that the majority of television shows, whether for children or not, will have violence on that program more than half the time. ) Statistics also showed that the average program for children more often contained more violence then the average Adult TV. Even in some “G” rated movies, there is violence. That is too unhealthy…

First of all, violent programming is a bad influence on young minds because it promotes aggressive attitudes towards others. Children usually tend to emulate what they see, especially when it’s of their heroes. Children often watch television to see their favorite heroes in action such as the Mighty Morphine’ Power Rangers or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Since their heroes are using violence and physical force to resolve conflicts, children seem to use that same concept of violence to solve conflicts as their own as if they’re also acceptable. For example, as a kid, the Mighty Morphine’ Power Rangers was my favorite show. After watching each episode, I had to the urge to go beat up villains. Whether I was the protagonist or the villain, I still wanted to cause violence. These are just two examples of violent television and they’re television programs especially made for children as well. The American Psychological Association in “Violence on Television-What Do Children Learn? What Can Parents Do?” states “Studies have shown that children’s TV shows contain about 20 violent acts each hour” (249). Those are way too many violent acts for a children’s show. Many people whom favor children watching television say that children shows teach morals and responsibility but that is yet to be seen. In “Violence on Television-What do Children Learn? What Can Parents Do,” Aletha…

Television viewing is a major activity and influence on children and adolescents. People complain that certain TV shows are having negative effects on their children. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) both feel that TV does influence the behavior of children as young as one year old. From their studies, the AACAP states, “Children who view shows in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated or unpunished, are more likely to imitate what they see” (as cited in Wilcox, 2004) This speaks to the impressionable mindsets of young children, who are still learning control of their minds and bodies, and are likely to mimic what they see, as it seems quite normal to them. Everything that children see or hear in the media early on in their lives affects them in some way. Violence, sexuality, race and gender stereotypes, drug and alcohol abuse are common themes of television programs. The Academy of Pediatrics says “More than one thousand scientific studies and reviews conclude that significant exposure to media violence increases the risk of aggressive behavior…
