The services that are provided for the WIC program are beneficial to all in the family. Pregnant women are provided with the nutrition they need to have a healthy baby. Women/mothers of newborns are provided with nutritious food to help feed, although women have the right to chose wither or not they will breastfeed, a women/mother will not be provided with any food unless she breastfeeds. Because the infant takes his or her nutrition from the mothers breast milk. The WIC program encourages mothers to breastfeed; because studies have shown breast milk is what is best for baby. Mother’s who bottle and formula feed are provided with help for formula. Though the WIC program doesn’t supply formula for every feeding, it does help supply a significant amount to feed your child. As you infant develops so does what your child is allowed to eat, for example- you would not give your infant child beans and rice, you would feed them formula or breast milk. At about 6 months, the WIC program will issue you vouchers to have baby cereal and baby food. Your baby food would call for you to buy fruits and vegetables.
