Topic 2: How do you think Social Media are shaping demand for Events and the Event Experience? Use examples to illustrate your argument.

Social media can be clearly defined by breaking down these two words. Media is an instrument of communications towards the world, for example, newspapers, magazines, radios and televisions. Social would be the interaction between one human being to another. Therefore if we put them together, social media would means an interaction between one to another through an instrument of communication. Social media is the main source of communications and information exchanges nowadays. Social Media is everywhere, billions of users have been using applications such as Youtube, Twitter and Facebook, and this numbers are still growing significantly each year (Bennett, S. 2013). With the amount of influential capabilities and publicity, social media is commonly used for marketing and publicising firms and company or even a person. Social Media is capable of doing many incredible things. Things such as instant global communications which includes virtual events like; meetings, conferences and also live broadcast of sports events (Getz, D. 2012). Using social media as a platform, companies can engage with customers through facebook or twitter to gain public awareness which will leads to more business opportunities. On top of that, this method of marketing is cheap and easy to maintain. People nowadays involve actively in all social media and basically you can get all kinds of information from the internet as well. In this article, the discussion will be made on how these information and publicity can shape the demands of an Event and the Event experience.
