A description of the both social and medical model will be included in this essay as well as comparisons of the similarities that they both have. In this essay it is important to outline the positives and negatives of both models as it shows an understanding of both of the models. The Bio-medical model views health as the absence of disease. A disease is a specific condition that one may have which also can be described as a pathological state in person such as HIV. A disease is caused by external forces for example bodily fluids that invade the body eventually effecting the internal bodily system which causes incontrollable physical changes. According to the medical model each disease obtained by a person is thought to be caused by a specific pathogen. Using the model experts such as health professionals are able to indicate to patients what medication they are eligible to take if they do become ill, they also have the power to diagnose any disease that they may have.
