In Stites’ article Someone To Watch Over Me she discusses the role that social networks play in her life. According to her she spends a good amount of free time on various different social networks. She says that she would rather spend her time talking to people online than in person. Stites then goes on to explain how she finds a thrill in finding new friends online. In my opinion social networks overall have a negative effect on your life. They create people afraid to talk to others in person, they make it easy for people to bully others and they waste your time.…

Another reason that social networking is bad is because the Internet is like a giant black hole. Many teens and college students don't realize that when they post something on the Internet, it stays there forever, even if you try to delete it. Social networks may look like a harmless way to connect with friends but there are many cases where it comes back to haunt them. The majority of high school and beginning college students…
Public websites geared toward creating a social network can be both positive, and negative. You can connect with people all over the world, with no fees such as land line long distance charges, cell phone, and text message charges. It is also beneficial in that you can connect with relatives you haven seen or spoken with in a while. But there are downfalls to such sites, and one of the major ones effecting teens and adults today, explicit photos, or inappropriate posts being seen by possible employers, or even colleges.…
Attention Getter: Over the past several years, I have fell victim to social networking sites. From Myspace to Facebook, I’ve become a regular of these sites and usually it’s the first thing I login to and check out when I turn on my computer. Like millions of other users worldwide,…
The first reason that social networking is bad for society is that it makes people lazy and overweight. About two decades ago, when people were bored, they would go outside and do something. You could go ride a bike, take your dog for a walk, play a round of baseball, or hit the gym and exercise. Nowadays, many people just go on their phones and “tweet” about how bored they or scroll through a friends new pictures and click the “like” button a few times. Sure, social networking might give you something “to do,” but really, you aren’t doing anything! Especially in American society, where the obesity rate has…
In today’s society one of the main ways we as humans communicate is through social networks. Social Networks such as Twitter or Facebook serve as a new and exciting way to interact over the internet and socialize. Now a day people rarely text or call due to new innovative ways such as the internet to connect with people all around the world. Individuals who are pro Social Networks would say that they promote positive ways to interact and meet new people. They would also say how exciting they are and how much of a thrill they can provide. However they fail to recognize the dangers that also come along with them. Due to all that is going on in the world anti-social network believers would say that social networks cause more harm than good due to the fact that they lead to harmful internet dating, are an excuse for people to spread rumors without being confronted, and are dangerous due to people oversharing information which can lead to unsafe internet stalkers or in person stalkers. I 100% agree with each of these three reasons, which is why I believe social Networks do cause more harm than good to society.…
Online social networking is when people connect with other people online through certain websites. I believe the most common websites today include Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. What people do is create their own profile account, and post information, photos, videos, and comments. Those things then get reserved on a news-feed for your whole fan base to see. I believe that the good of social networking far outweighs the bad. It seems to me that if you have internet and know how to use a computer, you probably have either created a Facebook or Twitter account. Social networking has so many positive ways to the user. Due to the connection with friends and family, meeting new people, raising self-esteem,and information being able to spread fast, are the reasons why online social networking is acceptable.…

I myself am associated with social networking sites, and know firsthand the dangers they can cause. And for the past couple of days I have been researching how harmful they can be to a person.…
Hal Niedzviecki’s essay, “Facebook in a Crowd,” emphasizes the difference between acquiring social network friends and acquiring real friends. When Niedzviecki logged on to Facebook, he realized he was close to having 700 online “friends” (958). But being that he didn’t know them personally like he knew his previous friends, he decided to have a Facebook party. After tabulating the responses, 15 people said they were attending, 60 people said maybe, a few hundred said not, and the rest ignored the invitation (958-59). However, on the day of the party one person named Paula showed up. According to him, “For chipping away at past friendships and blocking honest new efforts, you really have to blame the modern world. People want to hang out with you, I assured myself. They just don’t have the time” (Niedzviecki 960). Niedzviecki acquired 700 online friends, but spent the rest of his night drinking alone. He insists that society relies on social networks entirely too much to meet or interact with people. I agree that society is becoming too reliant on social networks to meet people because my experience on a social network confirms it.…

Social networks are a fun way to communicate, interact with friends, and enjoy online schooling, but are also harmful due to the harassment of cyber bullies and predators. Social networks/medias show their good side when we are all having fun on them, communicating with our friends. It is a fun and interactive way to converse, and meet new people; it gives people opportunities to learn characteristics that they have in common with each other, and make stronger relationships. Some people use Facebook, Twitter, and even Myspace to communicate with their friends; usually it is to make them aware of what you’re doing, going to do, or already have done, and meet new people, all through a fun, inventive way.…
Jenna Wortham is the author of the article named ‘Employers Use Social Networks to Check Applicants’. She is a technology reporter for The New York Times and this article was published on August 2009 at New York City. In this article she talks about how employers use social network like Facebook to check out references of the people that they might hire. She says that ‘Facebook is the most popular online destination for employers followed by LinkedIn’ (Wortham, 97). The main point that she tells is that sometimes in a Facebook profile people can see pictures of others and that is a risky situation because according to the author’s report ’44 percent of employers pinpointed references to drinking and drug use as red flags’ (Wortham, 97). It is very obvious how people can react with your profile pictures and the comments in your wall, people start to create stereotypes of you and they haven’t met you yet.…
