Social Networking Sites: a Friend or a Foe
SNS: A Friend or a Foe
By: Karlo Benecio A. Cezar II

Have you ever heard of the word Facebook or Twitter? How about Yahoo Mail, Bebo, Tagged, Foursquare or Flickr? Maybe you've heard people around you buzzing about "tweets", "add as a friend", "follow me", “like my post?" or even "reblogs". Sounds familiar?

These things are what we called social networking sites or SNS. It is actually a form of online service or site in which it focuses on the building of social relations among people who share same interests, activities, backgrounds, or real-life connections with each other. Everyone who wishes to have an account of an existing social site can access it freely and can already use SNS directly. Today, even youngsters has an account and so thus mid-age or old age people has a social account already.

Most of the social networks out there, offers free sign up in which we can send forth e-mails and documents in a matter of short time for free. We even start up a conversation from a family or a friend far away from you, call them over the web or even befriend with someone you wish to be friend. You can also share what's happening on your life right now, share your photos to everyone from an event and even express yourself and your thoughts, your freedom and commotions inside of you by just typing it down and sharing them to everyone. A person who joins any social networking sites has its own preference on how he/she would use it.

Sharing is what Social networking is all about, thus, sharing same interests bonds people more together. Exchanging cool music and files from one another, discussing ideas about a certain issues and topics or even talking about your famous idols are just how it is been done. Likewise, when you already develop a friendship over the net, you'll be keeping in touch with each other in which you could do chats with them and be connected with these people to form a web of connections that can give you leverage if you play your cards right.

Through this sites also, people around the world could feel free share the truths behind every news and facts. Others also use SNS to declare the things they wish to provoke that they cannot speak through themselves. Videos, news, pictures, even facts or invitation are greatly one way to post to let other users know the meaning of true and freedom. Not everything around us that we seem to be is what it is. Sometimes, the only thing to do is to let other knows what the real thing is. Through social media, people have can exercise their freedom as a person. No one can stop them or can even block them from telling the truth, their emotions and their opinions as voices of humanity. Reports any anomalies present in the society is also one way to use this sites and sending people your invitation to initiate your move in the way that others would participate too.

Things get very interesting when you have someone you know in a social networking site has fascinating similarities with you. But sometimes, things got pretty irrelevant in the web. Often times, users will just inappropriately act as if they don’t are uneducated with shallow ideas. Others would even dare to harass and disrespects anyone and in other cases, asking someone to do something very not human like committing suicide and immorality, which leads on the act of cyber bullying. Your lifestyle might also be your own foe when you don't actually manage your habit well and eventually when the moment comes you'll just realize how long you’ve wasted your time on SNS. Many cases and events in our society have affected our lives. We may not be the one who has been victimize by cyber bullying like Sen. Tito Sotto, who acclaimed himself that he was been a victim of cyber bullying, to those people who have already lost their lives after committing suicide when they were defeated by the unjust comments of insensitive people over the net, to those who have shown immorality when someone plans their devastating fate and to those who experienced any form of harassment over the web but we can thwart these endeavors to us.

Do we need to let these things to ensue on us? No! The time is now to act, help and save. We need to set free ourselves from this awful event and begin to defend everyone who fought this war. Let us stop this wickedness and the persons behind this and start to raise our humanity. Never risk your dignity for a single gold bar doesn’t worth a stain on it. Let us imprint in our minds and in our selves the world of peace existing in our world, the world we lived on and the cyber world we socialize on. Let us also bear in our minds that Social networking is a great help and one of the greatest thing being invented before but have to take charge of our actions. Be responsible of the words we'll post and be professionally acclaimed of the things that would exercise your freedom without taking offense to others, too.

It is not bad to be friend with someone you just met in the internet but we should always guard ourselves and never risk our safety. The world of SNS is fun and influential but always remember that controlling one's self desire over things you've urge the most is a healthy way to have fun and be human enough to be a role model for everyone and be a good influential to those people around you.

SNS is a friend in deed when used and utilizes in a way best fit for us but turns out to be our own foe when reaching the maximum limit of usage and when we don't know where and when to stop.
