Social Problems in Namibia
The Namibia society seems to be in a social crisis as stated in (The Namibian, 2013), this is due to all the rapes and gender based violence and loss of jobs that is seen happening. The people in our society that are mostly affected by these acts are the female members of society who are always unaware until the last moment, which is usually the case when it comes to gender based violence and other sort of abuse. These acts of violence and abuse have become a popular problem in many communities as it is not safe for women and young girl to walk around freely anymore. Killing that are now called “passion killing” are now on a high increase and there is nothing passionate about taking your lover’s life. The Namibian (5th March 2013). It is mostly in informal settlements or rural areas where the victims are usually not aware of their vulnerability. Violence in the suburban upscale places of our society is not often reported at the local law enforcement offices, thus we do not know how often the ladies in those places are abused. The rapes that occur in informal settlements mostly take place at night in densely bushed places and riverbed. While on the other hand, the violence also takes place at night but at pubs and other drinking spots. The public is a witness to most of these activities but they opt to keep silent about this.
Unemployment is also major problem in our societies as it contributes to the high increase in the country’s poverty rate especially in urban areas. This issue has mostly affected the youth of our Namibian nation. About 68% percent of the Namibian youth are unemployed and this is not good for our country’s future. (The Namibian, 2013) The government needs to do something to create employment opportunities for the youth as they are the future of this country. The other group is that of the so-called “struggle kids”. (The Namibian Sun, 2013) The government has turned a blind eye towards this issue and nothing has yet been done to create give or
