What do Social workers do? The primary mission of Social Workers according to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is to enhance human well- being and help meet the basic needs of all people with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty (NASW, 1999). In my opinion they are there to establish a rapport and enhance motivation. Social workers are there to assist people in their daily lives with coping with relationships, their problems with themselves, and family issues. There are many different kinds of social workers, but overall they are all there to help people deal with everyday life issues. Whether it be solving personal and family problems, working with families who are experiencing domestic conflict, conducting research, working in a hospital setting helping patients and families understand difficult health care choices, working as an administrator with social services with addressing child abuse, homelessness, and domestic violence, or being involved as a social policy advocacy.…

Mental health is one is my favorite subjects to talk about. Today I will be talking about LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). The reason I selected this occupation is because I currently work at a mental health clinic therefore I am very familiar with the job process. The education requirements for regular social worker and clinical social workers are different. For example, a regular social worker needs a bachelor’s degree; however a clinical social worker must have a master’s degree and about two years of post-masters experience in a supervised clinical setting which is about 3,000 hours. Through this experience a person will learn different aspects on how to comfort and communicate with clients. Most importantly a person must be licensed…

Aside from that, some of the other roles of social work services include advocating for the clients, working with other professionals to go over the needs of those that we are working with, and to counsel our clients with sessions, whether it be group or individual, to help them to overcome some of their obstacles. Social work services are also in place to help clients monitor and evaluate effective goals through a treatment and care plan (“mswonlineprograms”,…

Social workers advocate for individuals and families within the community who lack autonomy and create environments that allow them an equal opportunity to thrive. Social workers level the playing field across the board for individuals and families who have struggled with hardships, terminal illnesses, mental health disorders and other adverse environmental situations that inhibit their ability to thrive within society. Social workers accomplish this by providing individuals and families a sense of hope and support, as well as, resources within the community designed to meet their needs. Social workers serve an essential role in the functioning of our society, as they are committed and dedicated to increasing the quality of life for the underprivileged in our community. I fully intend on actively contributing to this endeavor, and look forward to having the ability to contribute, and the responsibility of ensuring that all community members have personal and familial needs met and equal opportunities to thrive.…

Kidney stones are not easy to deal with, nor is the hospital bill when you do not count with the resources to pay for it. The lack of knowledge about resources available to me and the absence of anyone to advocate on my behalf rendered me unable to pay my health care bill. This resulted in subsequent collections and difficulties obtaining financial assistance. I know my story is far too common in our community, but no family should experience hardships to obtain medical assistance and try to survive. Furthermore, while working on my bachelor’s degree I experienced a tragedy that I do not wish upon anyone; I lost my father in a battle with PTSD. The lack of assistance and mental health care from the Veteran Affairs office had driven my father to the edge of hopelessness. My situation and the situation of countless other oppressed families motivated me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, and have the opportunity to advocate for those individuals facing difficult situations at any point in their life, serve as a guide…
