I am now aware that when disempowered people, specifically children and people living with mental health issues, are given necessary resources and equal opportunities, they will thrive. This experience of working in a helping role with seniors, children and youth is what drove my passion to pursue a career in social work. I have attended several conferences world wide to help broaden my knowledge base such as 61st Association of Children's Residential Centers’ conference with Dr. Bruce Perry in Portland, USA, 2017. In march 2016, I attended Racialized and Indigenous Students’ Experience (RISE) Summit in Scarborough, Ontario, where I met and shared experience with more than 200 racialized and Indigenous students. I would like to take advantage of all the academic and social resources that would be available to me at the Faculty of Social Work, in the University of Calgary. My area of interest for specialization is in clinical social work practice, specifically child protection. I am interested in areas such as attachment theory, narrative therapy, and strengths based prospective. My passion is to better the lives of children and families.
