five time presidential candidate of the Socialist Party of America. Debs also spent time in jail for supporting trade union activity and opposing the First World War. Martin Luther King Jr. was best known for his civil rights campaign, he was also a democratic socialist. Robert Owen was an early socialist pioneer, he advocated a form of utopian socialism and co-operative communities. Frederich Engles helped write and publish the Communist Manifesto. Engles was a great supporter and collaborator of Karl Marx.
Socialism also has lots of pros and cons which the people can benefit from or people may not benefit from.
Some pros in socialism are promoting equality which means socialism aims for all people to be treated equally and gets equal access to all resources of the state. Another pro in socialism is equal access to healthcare. Socialism makes it mandatory to keep healthcare cost affordable and also free in order to have everyone offered medical help whenever needed. There are also a few cons in socialism, one is financial burden in socialism. These burdens can lead to welfare schemes, health care to education, right to food and almost every other normal living people do everyday. Another con for socialism would be that it could make an entire country lazy and unproductive, this situation may benefit welfare programs and cause people to think they could stop working. People would expect the state to provide all their needs, if so where would the state get all the
money?
Democratic socialist says that society and the economy should be run democratically, not to make profits but to meet public needs. Democracy and socialism can go head to head, in almost every country whatever idea democracy has it also shows the same idea for socialism, everywhere but the United States, many false ideas has developed in the US about socialism. Democratic socialist believe that economic and social decisions should be made by the most effective. Socialist reject the belief that the whole country should be centrally planned.
