Several forms of media from music to television and including books and magazines influence people of society, children especially. Children are influenced easily due to the fact that they are still learning and have little experience in certain areas of life. Not to say that adults are not impressionable because there are some immature adults who are still influenced by the media. For instance some adults are influenced by television and like to emulate the rich and famous. Males and females alike will copy hairstyles, speech patterns and style of dress of those stars from Kim Kardashian to Sean “Puffy” Combs.
How much of a role does TV play in the socialization process?
I must say that TV and other forms of media play such a significant role in the socialization process. I remember when I was younger my mother would tell us to turn the idiot box off and read a book. I can remember my mother, brothers and I sitting down playing Uno or Monopoly to pass time and my mother making us read for thirty to forty five minutes a day. Now a days it seems the television is used to raise the children, when parents are occupied by other parental duties their children sit and watch television. There are so many shows and channels dedicated to children and I must say some of them are educational and others are just for entertainment.
