a. I think that the existence of poverty does not imply that the socioeconomic system is unjust. No matter how perfect a economic system is, there will someone in poverty. Poverty is dependent on the location and resources, along with status quo. If someone believes they are at a higher status and have more access to resources such as training and education then they would believe they are better than some other member of that society. As poverty affects anyone and everyone round the world, there are many different factors that can play a role in poverty. I think some the factors are education, life skills, age and health. Today we focus on education and the importance on having education when acquiring jobs, think someone of an older age such as someone from the baby boomer generation and getting layoff and having to start over could be in poverty for a time due to the possibility of not having needed education or skill set. Another factor could be overpopulation and not enough resources. Unfortunally we also do not live in a perfect world and I think discrimination also plays a factor in poverty and can cause the rate in our nation to increase. All these factors are a combination of structural and individual. The view can be affected by many ways since it depends on the person answering the question, depending on their background and experience with poverty can lead to poverty being just or unjust. I think individually we all have a moral obligation to help and do our part give back to our community to teach about poverty and help provide resources on how the younger generations can better develop life skills and follow through with education. I think if we step up more individually, than as a society we can help reduce poverty in the U.S. Some steps that could be taken would volunteering with youth education programs or mentorships and business could play the role of offer some these programs at their work to help people get a chance to start developing different types of skills.

a. If the net result is greater in happiness than a utilitarian could be willing to leave some people in poverty. As utilitarian’s believe in creating as much happiness with other having the effect of decreasing the happiness in others.
