I think there are a few sociological concepts that really summarize the issues in the article. Race, I think, is the main one that summarizes this article because the article talks about how race is still a big obstacle in the job market for African-Americans. Many African-Americans are not taken seriously or even considered for a job because of their skin color. Williams, a black man, applied to the Dallas money management firm, and the hiring manager was really excited to hear from him because there weren’t many people who went to prestigious business schools in that area. So, they set up a meeting to talk about the job opportunity, but when he walked in and introduced himself. Social class and race are related in this article because I feel like many job employers, in this article think that black people are lower class, and that they are inferior to the job employers because of their skin color. They relate skin color to social class, and I think this idea comes from slave owners back in the day. Many people have this stereotype that all black people are poor and from the ghetto, when in reality it is not like that at all.
