Sociological Concepts In The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air

During class this semester we learned about many concepts in the sociology world. The show I chose to give examples of these concepts is The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. In the show they give many examples of concepts like sex, gender and interaction. The four concepts that I chose to use were racism, groups, family and social interaction. Racism is the feeling one gets when his or her race is more superior than another. In the show there is a point when Will and Carlton get pulled over by the police. When they get home Carlton goes about as if they were just pulled over by mistake. On the other hand Will is irate because he believes that the cops pulled them over because they were in an expensive car but not white. Carlton thinks that is crazy of Will and at first I did too. But then Will explains to Carlton, that during their time it wasn’t acceptable for a black man to be driving expensive cars, living in fancy homes and having money. He goes on by telling him that the cop pulled him over because he had probably thought they stole the vehicle. Once Will gets his point acrossed it seems to be an eye opener for Carlton because he just sits there in silence, as if he doesn’t know what to say because he is in disbelief.
In the show there comes a point where Ashley, Will’s cousin decides to transfer schools without telling her parents. She wasn’t going to tell them but Will makes her before she goes to bed. During her reasoning she goes on to say that her old school Bel Air Academy is filled with people that she doesn’t want to be around. She likes the new school better because of the people there.
