Sociology is the field of society, including patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and culture.
Sociology provides a perspective view of the world; an understanding of reality. "The fascination of sociology lies in the fact that its perspective makes us see in a new light the very world in which we have lived all our lives. This also constitutes a transformation of consciousness (Invitation to Sociology, Peter L. Berger, 21) Sociology stresses social context in which people live. Sociologist is a person who studies society, meaning any group of people that share a culture and country. Furthermore, a sociologist has to choose a particular group in the society, and examine how their individual behavior is being influenced by the larger social
context.
It is essential to understand the connection between biography and history because according to C. Wright Mills, "The facts of contemporary history are also facts about the success and the failure of individual men and women." (The Promise, 1) Any actions and decisions of a person are just the outcome of the social issue she or he faces in the society she/he lives in. First example, some health insurances have different categories and requirements that prevent someone from obtaining basic health care. One reason that someone is being denied by the insurance is because she is overweight. This will affect her life because she won't be given a proper medical diagnosis that might worsen her existing health issues. The health care system in the United States is far more different from the health care in other countries. Second examples, one couple files for bankruptcy because they are unable to pay their accumulating co-pays in health insurance, resulting for them to lose their home and move to their daughter's two-bedroom house. Unfortunately, this happens to them not only because of the unreasonable health care system, but also because of the economic meltdown.
