We all have significant individuals who have impacted our lives and helped shape us as individuals. Whether it is a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, or guardians, they have done their part. I was given an assignment that presented me with the task of reflecting on my life as an individual and seeing how I can change my perspective on certain situations that have occurred throughout my life. During my life, my family has been one of the foundations that have shaped me as the person I am today. When I received the opportunity to really reflect on my life and what gender inequalities, discrimination, and lack of healthcare I have experienced, instantly I thought about my childhood and my teenage years. My paper will discuss certain events that regard gender inequality, discrimination, and situations I faced due to lack of healthcare. Reflection on these differences will be done by using conflict, interactionist, and functionalist lens (perspective). I remember when I was a little girl and my grandpa was washing his truck and he asked my brother to help him an in exchange for his labor, my brother got paid. So the next time, I ask my grandpa if I could help him wash his car next week, and he and my grandmother told me that that’s not what girls supposed to do. From that moment I knew that something was very strange because my grandpa never said no to me unless it is for something serious that he didn’t t want me to do. I couldn’t fully grasp and understand why my grandpa would let my brother do it and not me when I’m the oldest. I also remember when my grandparents were assigning our weekly chores, my sister and I all got the chores that have to be done inside and my brother got all the easier jobs and outside work. For example, chores that were done by my sister and I were washing the dishes, cleaning up our rooms, and mopping/sweeping while my brother had chores like taking out the trash and mowing the lawn.
