COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course aims at acquainting students with the political systems and processes with special reference to Bangladesh. Upon completion of this course a student is expected to understand the basics of politics as it developed throughout the centuries. Such an understanding will also help students to grasp the political history of Bangladesh.
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
i. Understand and use theories /analytical approaches of modern political science and political economy
ii. Understand and use normative and positive mode of analysis
iii. Understanding of human behaviour, both individual and collective, in socio-political settings
iv. Understand how socio-political and ideological factors affect development and political processes
v. Understand how socio-political and developmental changes are measured
COURSE STURCTURE
This is a 3-credit hour compulsory course. The course covers the following broad themes:
i. Analytical approaches to the study of politics and political economy of development
ii. Understanding of human behaviour in political and social settings and political economy of collective actions
iii. Impact of norms, values and culture on development
iv. Measuring social/institutional changes
STUDENT GRADING AND ASSESSMENT
Class attendance – 10%
Class participation – 10%
Midterm examination – 30%
Final examination – 50%
