Critical thinking is a process of filtering information through a systematic theory to gain a greater understanding, avoiding situations where ignorance dictate actions and motivation. Ignorance is not necessary negative but it can also stray from being positive. Ignorance can go hand and hand with innocence, people that are unware of an issue and how it affects others are in a state of ignorance, people who choose to remain in ignorance without researching information or put forth the effort to understand how an issue affects someone else chooses to remain ignorant. The people of Flint have been without clean water, without a positive resolution in sight. The solution being provided causes more work for the people of flint to haul clean water to their homes weekly. The ignorance of not identifying with the suffering of these people, hinders the solution. The three theories of critical thinking, are adaptable to any issue conflict, symbolic interactionism, and functionalism are critical thinking filters in which to categorize the issue, being able to identify and issue and understand it can lead to resolutions beneficial to society not just one individual. Knowing knowledge is power, providing an insight and perspective valuable to making decisions in person and professional lives makes sense. The more educated a society is the more that society will prosper and benefit. Some of the harsh conditions that children face to get an education in other countries is disturbing. Walking over two miles to attend school, missing school due to work to provide for your family at age eight, attending night classes by a dim lantern after spending all day working. These are just a few of the harsh realities children in other countries face. Knowing some social issues of other countries, can make the ones in America look small in comparison. Being aware of slavery still in existence, human trafficking are difficult issues to digest. It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed with grief for people who endure these types of issues and to know that these issues happen even in America makes it even more difficult to stomach. Knowing how many people risked their lives and died to end slavery in America and to still have issues revolving around race is a disheartening
