Soft Skills Activity Sheldon Whalen Soft skills are also referred to as people skills or interpersonal skills and are useful tools when working and interacting with other people. Some examples of soft skills include public speaking, empathy, reliability, delegation, communication, innovation, and analytical thinking. There are many more that could be listed; any skill that is used when collaborating with others on a project or pitching an idea could be considered a soft skill. One soft skill that I believe that I have developed well within myself is being respectful. I believe that I excel at this skill because it is something that I have used since a young age. I think that I excel at this skill because it was instilled in me so early, my parents made me properly address others when talking to them at a young age. I also was involved in youth sports where the coaches taught us the correct ways to be polite to others and this has continued to serve me well all these years later. I believe that a soft skill that I can improve on is team building or communication. Although I can be very respectful when interacting with others, I often am not the loudest person to say. I know that sometimes I need to speak up more than I do, and being shy around others can hurt team building opportunities. One situation that I find myself in, especially with the smaller classes this year in college, is not saying the answer when the professor asks the class. I know I have a problem when I am more comfortable not speaking up than possibly missing out on some points. I also recognize this in my networking. I have a very tight and small network. The friends that I have are great, it is just that I tend to keep my friends close and not grow my
