Health awareness rises when effective means of correspondence are adopted (Kinzie, 2005). Promotion of the maintenance and use of latrines, washing of hands and appropriate food handling have advantages that function admirably with the control of STH diseases. It is advisable to include health education in STH control programmes if the health education message can be provided in an easy and cheap way. Health education messages can be delivered by teachers in schools thereby implementing changes in health behaviour in children. With health education, there are often challenges because suggested solutions are usually too costly or unavailable in rural or poverty stricken areas(Mascie-Taylor et al., 1999). The efficiency of health education in increasing health awareness may vary place to place. (Guanghan et al., 2000; Lansdown et al., …show more content…
Effects of improved sanitation on STH infections may take a while to achieve measurable impact because unless the new and improved sanitation measures such as provision of latrines are used and maintained, no improvement would be made.( Asaolu and Ofoezie, 2003). One of the major challenges faced is that due to lack of funds, there is a lack of appropriate infrastructure.
PREVENTION
There are no vaccines yet that prevent STH infections but deworming events are often coordinated which provide medication that kill the intestinal worms in people who are already infected. These medications have no prophylactic effects, so it is important to adapt the methods of prevention listed below: Shoes should be worn in areas likely to be contaminated with faeces, foods should be properly washed and cooked, Proper sanitation should be practiced when eating and preparing food, designated places to go to the bathroom should be created which should not be close enough to water sources to contaminate the water.
