Sojourner Truth had an angry tone when she gave her, "Ain't I a Woman" speech. She kept pointing out what was wrong with how men treat others, especially the white men. She said things that priced she was capable of doing regular things, and she kept repeating the same phrase: "ain't I a woman?"
Maya Angelou is a much more recent feminist who wrote a poem entitled, "Still I Rise".
The poem states, "You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise." Throughout the poem, Angelou seems to use a sassy tone and seems to believe that others are jealous because she is so great. She also says that history is full of twisted lies about women.
Both of them say that they are very capable of being regular people, but are believed to not be so. They both believe that they are also smart enough to live like a man, but they are once again mistaken.
After reading both of the poems, I believe Sojourner Truth did a better job of getting the point across than Maya Angelou. Truth decided to just go in that she was a woman and deserved to be treated better than she was. I think Maya Angelou did not do as well because she presented it much happier than Truth did and was sassy about it. Gandhi may have won India because of the peaceful protest, but peacefully writing poems will not convince people of the point being established.
