In our opinion, installing solar panels in the Mojave Desert is ultimately good despite the negative consequences because it’s a free source of energy that can also produce millions of gallons of drinkable water for people who struggle to find clean water every day. The cost is high to install solar panels, but it would eventually pay off down the road and could potentially provide our nation with tons of money that we could save from using non-renewable sources.…

Bo Haeberle, with his friends invented an innovative bird feeder that worked on solar power. The feeder used a small solar panel in its roof to build an electric charge. The Solar feeder's purpose is to use the mild electric shock it generates to repel the squirrels, preventing them from stealing the bird seed or damaging the feeder itself. In a typical product-driven approach, Bo and his friends started SDI, Inc. to produce and promote the solar feeder without having done any marketing plan. After several years of perseverance and some recognition & rewards, however the company finds itself running out of money. And the company also realizes the need to develop a marketing plan in order to attack the $843 million market for bird feeders, baths and nesting boxes.…

The local council of Greenville recently made a proposal for all houses and businesses to install solar hot-water systems by 2010. Houses and businesses that who have not installed solar hot-water systems by then would be charged a “greenhouse levy”. However some residents have expressed anger over the proposal. “Solar Sellout” published in a local newspaper, an opinion piece and its accompanying cartoon written Bob Walsh, contends that the proposal which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is not appropriate for the small suburb of Greenville. Walsh uses a sarcastic and angry tone which is quite personal, and aims to clearly outline why the proposal by the government is a bad idea.…

The earth receives extremely large amounts of energy coming from the sun. Solar energy has become a number one option for a future reliable, greener energy source. An article by the National Academy of Engineering, Make Solar Energy Economical, has proposed this issue as one of the many challenges engineers face this 21st century. The academy emphasizes, the sun’s “availability far exceeds any conceivable future energy demands. It is environmentally clean, and its energy is transmitted from the sun to the Earth free of charge”. So, we ask ourselves how much energy is actually getting to us from the sun? In his book, Physics for future presidents, Richard A. Muller exposes the magnitude of the sun’s energy by saying: “watch a sunrise and experience…

My project is about solar power. In my project I am testing the effects of differing amounts of light on a solar powered car. I have figured out that the more light the solar powered object is exposed to, the farther and faster it goes. The amount of light is measured in lumens, the more lumens, the more light. My results dictate what would happen if you drove a solar powered car on a cloudy day.…

Description: The Indian solar energy sector has been growing rapidly, in the past few years, majorly due to Government’s initiatives such as tax exemptions and subsidies. Due to technical potential of 5,000 trillion kWh per year and minimum operating cost, Solar Power is considered the best suited energy source for India. Today the Solar power, has an installed capacity of 9.84 MW which is about less than 0.1 percent of the total installed renewable energy of India’s~ currently total installed renewable energy stands at 13,242.41 MW as per MNRE. India's power sector has a total installed capacity of approximately 1,46,753 Megawatt (MW) of which 54% is coal-based, 25% hydro, 8% is renewable’s and the balance is the gas and nuclear-based. Power shortages are estimated at about 11% of total energy and 15% of peak capacity requirements which is likely to increase in the coming years. The cost of production range is Rs 15 to Rs 20 per unit for the solar energy, which is very high when compared to, Rs 2 to Rs 5 per unit for other conventional sources in India. Much of the country does not have an electrical grid, so solar power will indeed be a boon for water pumping, to begin replacing India's four to five million diesel powered water pumps, each consuming about 3.5 kilowatt of off-grid lighting. Solar energy technology consists of solar thermal technologies, which utilize sun’s energy and solar photovoltaic technology, which convert solar energy directly into electricity. According to the 11th five year plan, the government of India projects a massive expansion in installed solar capacity, and aims to reduce the price of electricity generated from solar energy, to match that from fossil fuels like coal and diesel by 2030. MNRE has set up target to add 14500 MW by 2012, from new and renewable energy resources out of…
