Good morning/Good afternoon everyone,
Well I have always believed in the notion of praising those who stopped wars and not those who fought them, but even that non-violent, humanitarian self in me cannot overlook the reason as to why we go to bed every night under the safe blanket of security and freedom. It is provided by none other than our own countrymen, toiling day in and day out sleeplessly, standing posts. Thanks to the power-hungry, we are unfortunately forced to live in a world that has walls and doubtlessly, those walls have to be guarded by men/women (pause) - our soldiers. They use words like honour, code and loyalty as the backbone to a life spent defending their country and their fellow countrymen.
In the dictionary, a hero is defined as a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his/her brave deeds and noble qualities. Soldiers are people who put their lives on the line, for our freedom. Bullets and bombs lurk in every corner of their paths. It is a common misconception that soldiers fight only in wars and have been accused of misusing the tax payer’s money during peaceful times. My friends, let me remind you all about the heroic part our gallant soldiers played just last month in the disaster-ridden Uttarakhand. They saved thousands of lives staking their own. Also, in an unfortunate incident during the rescue operations, a chopper collapsed which lead to the sad demise of three of those chivalrous men who laboriously saved thousands in the flood-hit areas of Himachal Pradesh.
When all is said and done, why are our soldiers still the “unsung heroes”? (Pause). We, our history textbooks and our newspapers praise hundred of men and women for their various achievements and contributions. Do they glorify the valiant acts of our
