World War I was cruel and horrifying, for every one who lives in this world. However, there were some people who had it the worst. It was the soldiers during the war. A lot of soldier who returned from the war, was diagnosed with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). This disorder has a psychological effect on soldiers. This disorder might cause soldiers to act different. They might hurt people that they are close to, or do anything to avoid complications. They might avoid people, ignore or hurt people, to avoid becoming friends. Ernest Hemingway was a soldier, during World War I. Which made him write ‘’Soldier’s Home’’ to show the psychological state of a soldier.

The title possibly is the perception, that Harold wants people to have of him, but he isn’t recognized as a soldier instead he is recognized as a normal person. Which isn’t the perception Harold want people to have of him. ‘’All of the times that had been able to make him feel cool and clear inside himself when he thought of them; the times so long back when he had done the one thing, the only thing for a man to do, easily and naturally, when he might have done something else, now lost their cool, valuable quality and then were lost themselves’’.
The writing style of ‘’Soldier’s Home’’ is plain, intimate without any emotional and direct. There are hardly any adjectives. The only adjectives used, is basic ones. There is a lot of ‘’Showing not telling’’. This is shown through the way the soldiers communicate. They are men of action, not words. The soldiers realize that people will not understand the horrors they’ve been through; therefore, the soldiers choose not to communicate with people.
