the client to use coping skills and sets realistic goals, so the client can meet them. According to Murdock (2013) states, “SF therapists emphasize the joint psychological construction of the therapy situation that allows therapists and clients to create new ways of viewing their lives and through these constructions formulate solutions to the problems clients bring to counseling. Approaching clients with the attitude that they have strengths and resources to solve their complaints, SF counselors create an interaction designed to maximize client potential.” Therefore, Solution- focused will help the client to see where they want to go and what motivation they need to get there.
This theory was chosen over the others because it will help the client with their current anxiety and depression.
This theory was chosen over the rest because it is a brief and short term therapy. Client will be able to use their personal strength to help with their current problems. Solution- focused therapy focuses to find the solution to the problem. The counselor will guide and help the client during treatment. According to Kim and Franklin states “The SFBT approach to helping clients provides a set of therapeutic techniques for building client competencies and helps clients discover workable solutions to their mental health problems. problem.
The goal of counseling using solution- focused is to first to find what the client wants to accomplish.
According to Murdock (2013) states, “The counselor works with the client to develop the specific, attainable, and concrete goals that are essential in SF Therapy. These goals should be observable. As noted earlier, even very small changes lead to more change, so no reasonable objective should be dismissed as trivial. So, the counselor will work with the client to set realistic goals so the client can accomplish their goal. An intervention strategy that is used in solution-focused is making sure the client knows how to use their coping skills. According to good therapy states “Coping questions can help demonstrate to those in therapy their resiliency and the number of ways in which they are capable of coping with challenges in their lives.” Therefore, coping question is a strategy that can be used while in treatment and after treatment. According to institute “With SFBT, the conversation is directed toward developing and achieving the client’s vision of solutions. The following techniques and questions help clarify those solutions and the means of achieving them.” So, some of the techniques can be questions to the client that can clarify their current problem. The theory is designed for a short term counseling. Solution-focused is designed for a brief counseling because the client is using their strength for their current problem. The client needs to used their personal
strength and need to solve their own problems, the counselor is there to guide and support the client while in treatment. Client will see a difference right away while they are in treatment.
The counselor’s role with this client is the counselor is responsible of what happened in session with the client. Counselor needs to have knowledge of any changes that might occur while the client is in session and in treatment. The counselor takes the lead of therapy and then the client will continue with the techniques that the counselor has provided it to the client.
