Significant Memory Memories affect people throughout their lifetime. I was affected with a tragic memory that left me with a scar on the right side of my stomach. This scar is a memory I just cannot forget. The reason why I can't forget about it is because my scar came with a painful reality . I was 11 years old , constantly throwing up for fourteen hours and clueless about what was wrong with me. My parents finally rushed me to the hospital and patiently waited in a room for the doctor’s results on my condition. Nervous to see my results the doctor walked in with a bad look on his face.
My scar isn't like the average scar that is closed up, sealed or unnoticeable I am not going to lie. My scar looks like a worm. It has a pinkish look. It’s a small scar but it pops up which it make’s it very noticeable if I am shirtless. I've been carrying this scar for the past 7 years. A few bad memories I carry with this scar is waking up with mulitple loud coughing at 3 in the morning, throwing up on my bed , rushing to the bathroom with diarrhea during the day , having sharp stomach aches and having headaches that made me so dizzy that I didn’t have the strength to walk. As hours went by , I was clueless about my situation. I was drinking tea that my mom made for me . I thought the pain would go away but it only made me feel worse. Later, when I was shirtless, I tried not to look at my scar. It was the first week of the summer before the sixth grade. I had just turned eleven years old. I was enjoying my summer hanging out with my friends, running around, and being athletic. Me thinking I’m in the perfect condition I was wrong. I woke up one Saturday morning at 3 coughing very loudly for multiple times. I then threw up on my bed sheets. My mom quickly ran into my room to see what was going on. She saw what happened and told me to clean it up . While I was cleaning the vomit off my sheets, she went downstairs to the kitchen

I was in my room with my dog, Sunny. I was telling her I will see her tomorrow because I was going to my friend's house to stay the night with my friends. I packed my bag and I was off. Soon everyone was there. It was 8:00. We were bored. so I said let's play truth or dare. My friend dared me to mix stuff together and drink all of it. So I mixed toothpaste, a dead mantis, sprite, and canned dog food. So I mixed them and started to drink it. It tasted nasty! After I felt sick. Suddenly I fell to the floor. That's when It all started.…

I can share the memories of the time I found out my parents were getting divorced. I can still remember going to a counselor to try to get over the divorce. Those memories are hurtful and sad, but like Eva, there are more things about that memory that keeps me attached. It feels like our memories are attached on one side of a thread and we are on the other side. There will always affect me.…

My mom and my step dad were talking about something and my mom said that I told her that I wasn't feeling good so I went upstairs in my mom's room. All I remembered was lying down and then all of the sudden just blacked out. From what my step dad and my mom saw was worse. My step dad was going to the room to get something when he saw me at the edge of the bed with my eyes rolled back and I was shaking like crazy. He yelled my mom's name and she rushed up the stairs, when she got there she said that I just looked passed out and she picked up my body and head off the ground and kept calling my name she said that I was squinting and trying to say yes. My step dad called the ambulance and they came. When I got to the hospital they ran tests on me to see what was going on. They told my mom it was meningitis. That week was the most horrible week of my life. I was having headaches, throwing up constantly, drowsiness, pain in my body etc., but it was thankfully the virus one and…

Memory is an important part of our day to day lives. It is the ability to encode, store, retain and recall information and past experiences (Mastin, 2010). It allows us to recognize people, remember information for a test, do our jobs, and keep relationships. We are influenced today because of our past memories and experiences. In neurological terms, memory is a set of encoded neural connections in the brain (Mastin, 2010). Neurons are laid down and connections are made so that these memories can be retrieved for later use. When these pathways are damaged, memories can no longer be stored. People can get amnesia due to a head trauma, or traumatic shock, as see this in the movie Memento.…

I don’t remember much of my childhood. It’s been said that when you experience trauma, your brain has a defense mechanism to help you forget it ever happened. This is both helpful and hurtful in terms of carrying on. I don’t remember much of my mother before her alcoholism began to control her. I wish I could remember what she was like; I’ve been told she was a wonderful mother, though it’s very hard for me to believe that now.…

In the course of my life, I have had quite a few scars. One physical scar was when I tripped, and landed on a rock, and cut my forehead. But the most memorable, was when I was eight years old, I was hurt when I accidentally landed on a table after being hit by a pillow. As a result, I had a wide open cut on the top of my head near my forehead from the landing. I was scarred for life. This was my second scar after I had the former at an earlier age.…

We had a lot of practices in December to get ready for games in January. I was really nervous for our first game. Our first game was supposed to be right after christmas break ended, but we had a snow day so it was cancelled. I wished it hadn’t been so I could just get it over with, but i was gonna have to wait. We were scheduled for another game later that week. I woke up with a phone ringing and an answering machine saying that school was cancelled due to boiler issues. It was 2009 and I had been in sixth grade for a couple of months. I was on the phone with one of my friends from school when my mom called through my door for me to come out into the living room. I ignored her and kept talking for a few minutes when she called me out again. I rolled my eyes and told my friend I would call her right back. I walked into the living room and it seemed odd to me that both my sisters and dad were all out there too. I watched my mom take a deep breath with my dad by her side. As she began to speak her voice shook and gloss covered her eyes. “The doctors found a lump in my last mammogram.” she said. “It came back as cancer. I’m going to have to get treatment but I’m going to be okay.” No one else said a word, we all…

It was summer time and I was wearing my West Scranton football shorts and shirt, it was a normal day in the summer I was sitting in my living room with the air conditioner turned all the way down to 60 to get a cool breeze. I was watching Iron man but I really was not that into I kept drifting off and thinking what I should do with my day. My older brothers Shawn and Anthony came to the door around 2 in the afternoon and asked me if I wanted to go swimming. I quickly galloped up the stairs and asked my mother if I could go, she said yeah just be safe. So we left and went to a place called the “Rez” it was a place where high school and college kids go to jump off rocks and have a good time, it was a nice area surrounded by…

A memory of mine which is of great importance to me is the day I left my country to study in the USA, which has become really distorted now that I try to recall the details. I can remember that my family members and friends came to see me off from the airport, but I cannot exactly bring to mind all the people who were there. I cannot remember the last words my mother spoke to me but all I could remember was that she became immensely emotional about me leaving her. On the contrary, I can still vividly remember the first day I met my best friend in class 3. I can still clearly remember what we talked about when we met and where it took…

We took our boogie-boards into the ocean and rode them like surfboards. I feel off of my boogie-board and landed in the shallow part of the ocean. I had a scrape on my knee and their was blood in the ocean. My mom wiped the blood off of my knee and told me to go play in the sand.…
