The Philippines topped Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, China and South Korea in terms of the unemployment rate, the BLES (Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics) said. In the Philippines, more individuals join the long list of jobless persons every year. It is such a waste that colleges and universities are producing graduates but due to present economic crisis, where unemployment is dominant, the increase in the number of graduates has aggregated the unpleasant situation. One of the main causes of unemployment in the Philippines is the unavailability of jobs provided. Due to the fast growing rate of the population in the Philippines, millions need jobs but only a few will be able to have one due to the absence of jobs present in the country. The Philippine economy grew by 5.7 percent in the first quarter of 2014, even as we continued to feel the lingering effects of the disasters that hit the country during the last quarter of 2013. Despite this, the Philippines is the third fastest growing among the major economies in Asia in this period, next only to China with 7.4 percent and Malaysia with 6.2 percent. The relatively slow growth is expected, given the magnitude of the destruction in production capacity. In agriculture, permanent crops, notably coconuts, were felled. Damage to agricultural output also disrupted supply chains, which may partly explain why food manufacturing output also declined. The tourism and insurance industries likewise slowed down in the first quarter as they are still reeling from the impact of natural calamities last year. Apart from the disasters, prudential lending measures imposed beginnings in the previous quarter to prevent the formation of “real estate bubbles” have also contributed to the slowdown. Private construction was particularly affected by such measures. Nevertheless, Information Technology-Business Process Management (IT-BPM) and the export-oriented manufacturing remained resilient. Post-disaster recovery and reconstruction efforts have also induced growth in logistics, transport, and social work. Growth drivers Overall, on the supply side, the services and industry sectors primarily drove the growth with a contribution of 3.8 and 1.8 percentage points (ppts), respectively, to real GDP growth. Manufacturing remained as the main driver of growth for the industry sector, followed by mining and quarrying. However, agriculture is yet to recover from the devastating effects of last year’s typhoons. All subsectors posted lackluster growth, except forestry,…

The Republic of the Philippines is one among those list of developing economy and owns the possibility of being one of the fruitful nation in the next succeeding decades. Our country is highly expected to jump 27 places to become the 16th largest economy by the year of 2050 as projected by The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation International Bank. Resounding softly across the 7,100 islands that form the Philippines archipelago, the lilting strains of the country’s national anthem seem to be a reminder of a volatile past. This indeed is a country where invaders trampled its sacred shores, imposing colonization for more than three centuries. Freedom since then has been a thorny crown to wear and the years of toil under colonial masters and then despotic power hungry leaders have marred these pristine islands. Asia’s only predominantly Christian country, the Philippines enjoys one of the highest literacy rates in the world proving it in the large number of our call center agents whether an Information Technology graduate or not, and it would seem that economic prosperity is its destiny. But then man plays a cruel hand where destiny cannot. It has been the curse of the Philippines that its leaders have shorn the country of its value. Will the nation rise again? Perhaps, gentle as the wind that swirls across the country, it already has. The economy of the Philippines is an anomaly in the Asian region in that it has lagged behind other economies, such as those of Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. From a position as one of the wealthiest countries in Asia after World War II, sad to hear but we have to accept that the Philippines is now one of the poorest.…

    Philippines Economy

I consider this as a good news for us Filipinos. We may not feel the economic growth for now but it’s actually a good thing that we have indicators of how well or poor our economy is doing. This article only means that we will now be able attract more investors to invest in the Philippines. More foreign investors means more job opportunities just like jobs for construction workers. And yes, it is not permanent but if this will continue, life will be a lot easier for the future generations. Our concern should not just be for ourselves but for the future of our country. We need to work the common good. We should all be positive in dealing with our problems and consider news like this as a blessing. More positive news like this is an indication that our economy is doing very well. It feels really good to know that this is actually happening. Despite all that we have encountered in the past years, during the past administration, we are still able to survive and are trying to improve even more. If we really want to contribute to the growth of our economy, we should learn to be productive. Don’t contribute to the growing rate of unemployment. Look for a stable job instead to help feed your family and in that simple way, you can greatly help the economy of our nation. Anything worth having is worth working hard for. Those things that we have quickly achieved will not last long. So we have to continue to work hard for ourselves and for other people. And little by little, we will be able to save our nation. Let us believe in what our leader can do and what we can do for our country. News like this is favorable to us. This only means that our President is really trying to fulfill his promises.…
