Reaction Paper : 2011 State of the Nation Address of President Benigno Aquino III

Last 25th of July this year, the State Of the Nation Address was held. As far as I remember, President Benigno Aquino III won last election maybe because of the help of the economic background of his parents contributed upon us. His advertisements were obviously all connected to his parents’ personal background.

Way back 1970’s, that is, the deceased Benigno Aquino (Ninoy) had fight for the human rights against Former President Ferdinand Marcos that initiate the Martial Law occurrence. In that way I admired Ninoy for having a large contribution for our country. In that incident, most of the people suffered from Marcos that made the people put their trust on Ninoy. When he died on 1983, his wife, Corazon Aquino, on the latter part was elected and became the 11th president of our country, signifying the essence of freedom by the presence of the yellow ribbon.

Going to the main subject matter, I somehow agreed with PNoy’s speech most mainly the things being focused on the future plans to our country. The changes that he wants to attain on our government aspects have been said. His plans seem fulfilling to the public, and I’m hoping that it’ll not be only a plan that is being thought of, but could be true someday. He also focused the “Wang-Wang” thing that refers to the usage of abusive power among the public officials in our country. In this mentality he wants this to be removed in our society. He also discussed the contributions he has made in our nation like having an improvement on our stock market.

The president reiterated his policy against corruption and abuse of power. He cited his wang-wang policy as a the symbol of change, not only in the streets but also in society. He again enumerated irregularities in the previous administration, revealing that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation spent P1 billion for coffee.Aquino

I would like to remind everyone: Correct data is the first step to the orderly implementation of CARPER. But we inherited a defective sistema ng mga tala ng lupa. This is why, from the start, the DOJ, LRA, DENR, and DAR have worked to fix this system, and now we are at a point where we can guarantee that in the next year, all puna ng panaklob will have been served for lands covered by comprehensive agrarian reform. Hard-working, immensely intelligent, passionate, prayerful and noble, he dedicated his life to public service and, in the latter years of his life, took a stand against the death of democracy in the Philippines. He went through so much pain and loneliness in his struggles, but he was resilient and continued to fight for our freedom. He often said that he was not afraid of dying, and it’s moving to see how much he was willing to give up for this fight. These days, we see our politicians swinging from one party to another, to wherever they think will give them a better chance at winning. It seems that parties — or politicians, for that matter — no longer stand for any one ideology. In Ninoy’s case, you see his beliefs in everything he does — his hunger strike, his seven years in prison, and his attempt to return to Manila. Actions speak louder than words after all. Through his…

In the musicale, the characters exhibited the Ninoy Aquino in them by fulfilling their responsibilities and doing what is right. However, I believe that it is an unspoken human rule to do what’s morally good. While other people may pass off certain activities and behaviors such as recycling, keeping electrical consumption to a minimum, or saying po/opo as being Ninoy, if we look at it closely, those are neither the reason why he became the hero of martial law.…
