Music has been around since the beginning of time. Many artists express themselves by writing songs to convey emotions, tell fictional stories, or to share their own experiences. The human mind attaches many senses and feelings to melodies; they are tied to moments in life. Everyone feels the same emotions even though people are all different and unique. Songs are written about all sorts of feelings such as happiness, sadness, angriness, and sorrow. For example, if a person is having a bad day he can find a song relating to how he is feeling. American Idol, a reality show, auditions millions of young adults who have a passion for music and want their talent to be recognized. Carrie Underwood is the season four winner of the show. Since her success in 2005, she has become a very popular country music star by having many hit songs and receiving two Grammy's. The song "Before He Cheats," is one of her best, because it shows off her award winning vocals and expresses emotions of strong willed females.…

When reading Snodgrass's "Lying Awake" I felt completely lost. After reading the first two stanzas it seems as if Snodgrass is talking about someone feeling pressured to do something that they may not want to do or go forward with. In the first stanza he describes the moth as being "squirmed up, sniper style, between/The Rusty edges of the screen;" This might indicate the moth being someone that is involved in law enforcement or someone who can't seem to leave a controlling relationship. The poem continues to read "Lay here, content, in some, corner hole./Now that we've settled into bed/Though, he can't sleep. Overhead,/ he hurls himself at the blank wall." This stanza might indicate that the speaker is very much afraid of his or her partner because they were content in a corner hole but he or she cannot sleep.…
If I was to cast the poem as a movie I would cast Tichina Arnold as the mother, because she is a vibrate actress and Arnold could easily change from her professional voice to her mom's voice. Most of the role Arnold has played is like the mother in the poem, the mother is strong and professional, but at the same time the mother is loving and cares about her child. Arnold has had roles like Pam on the TV show "Martin" and the mother on the TV show "Everybody Hates Chris" and these characters have the some characteristics of the mother in the poem. The actor that I would cast for the role of the father is Terry Crew. Crew has already played such a role and it was in the TV shoe "Everybody Hates Chris". Crew was a strong, fun, and construction…
Mademoiselle Reisz inquired Edna how has she been using her time and is shocked to hear of Edna’s choice of becoming an artist. She warns her that an artist must be brave, possessing “a courageous soul that dares and defies.” Edna assures her that she has persistence if nothing else, and Mademoiselle Reisz laughs, hands over the letter to Edna, and begins to play the Chopin Impromptu that Edna asked to hear. The music deeply affects Edna, and she weeps as the pianist glides between the Impromptu and another piece, “Isolde’s song.” When Edna asks if she may visit again, Mademoiselle Reisz replies that she is welcome at all times.…
After I annotated this song and actually looked into what the lyrics were saying I learned that not everyone is who you think they are. For instance, you hide a lot of things from people not because you want to ,but because you don’t know how to tell them or maybe you’re afraid of what they will think of you. In the song ‘Demons’ by Imagine Dragons the singer says,”I wanna hide the truth’(Imagine dragons line 8 box 3) ,but then he says,” don’t want to hide the truth.”( Imagine Dragons line 35 box 8) I think that he is having mixed feelings what he should do. He is afraid that if he tells you that you may leave him or you won’t look at him the same way ever again.…

“Talking shit about a pretty sunset,” is a song that portrays an overall apathetic outlook on life. The listener can clearly hear the discontent expressed in the words sung and the execution in the music. Thoughts of suicide, phobia of commitment, lack and gain of motivation, fixation and illusions of a better life are all present. Through the complex breaks and climax of the song, tells an emotional story of revelation, realization and self-actualization.…
Literary critic, Carole Stone, celebrates the fact that Edna’s flashbacks, her submersion into the Gulf, and her idealistic ways are all necessary in order for her to become a true artist. Stone disagrees with recent critics’ claims that Edna is childish and indecisive, making her unable to make decisions and move forward artistically. Stone believes that having Adele Ratignolle and Madame Reisz in her life brings about Edna’s artistic nature. Adele represents the traditional, Creole woman. She supports Edna to embrace her inner-woman and talk about things she normally keeps secret. Adele’s foil, Reisz, represents the independent life of a true artist that has never been married or had children.…
In my own humble opinion, I believe that The Awakening by Kate Chopin is more about escape than a feminist agenda. Edna seems to feel trapped in the social confines of society at the time. Throughout the first half of the book there are plenty of examples of this. To name a few, Edna talks about when she was growing up in Kentuckey, she would wade through the tall grass instead of growing to church. Another example of the theme of escape being prevalent in the first half of the novel is her relationship in general with Robert. Edna is looking for something new, something to distract her from the droll routine of her day to day life as a housewife. Her relationship with Robert provides her with an excitement that she hasn’t felt since she married Leonce. This can also be seen as a rebellion, seeing as Edna came from a protestant background, while Leonce, being Creole, was Catholic.…
Lieder ohne Worte (Song without Words) is written by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection. The piece is in the key of E major and modulates from E to B to G major.…
