There was a time I used to look into my father's eyes
In a happy home I was a king I had a golden throne
Those days are gone, now the memories are on the wall
I hear the songs from the places where I was born
Up on the hill across the blue lake,
That's where I had my first heartbreak
I still remember how it all changed
My father said,
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now"
Yeah!
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now"
Yeah!
There was a time, I met a girl of a different kind.
We ruled the world, I thought I'll never lose her out of sight.
We were so young, I think of her now and then
I still hear the songs reminding me of a friend
Up on the hill across the blue lake,
That's where I had my first heartbreak
I still remember how it all changed
My father said,
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now"
Yeah!
Oh, oh, oh!
See heaven's got a plan for you
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now"
Yeah!
Oh, oh, oh, Yeah!

According to Merriam-Webster, The definition of a double standard is a set of principles that applies differently and usually more rigorously to one group of people or circumstances than to another; especially: a code of morals that applies more severe standards of sexual behavior to women than to men. It’s ironic to me that the definition contains the example of sexual behavior. In Kate Chopin’s story The Storm I see her writing supporting women’s rights and also an example of double standards. Double standards are a huge debate in todays’ society, especially when it comes to sexual behavior. Men and women are biased differently when it comes to number of sexual partners and…

“Fortunate Son” by American band Creedence Clearwater Revival, was released in September 1969, during the height of the Vietnam War. During this time, conscription played a prominent role in recruiting men for the United States to combat the communist forces in South-East Asia, though it was not without criticism and opposition. “Fortunate Son” offers a voice to the anti-war movement. Its arguments against conscription, as well as against the prevailing U.S. policy of containment (of communism), were echoed by a large segment of America society during the Vietnam War.…

Black is the darkest color in the world and can be seen as the complete absence of light or the absorbance of all light. As its divisive nature suggests, the color black’s meaning varies from person to person. Overall, black is the unknown. A color without color, but is needed to produce all colors. A color that will either intrigue us or shy us away. This controversy is best represented as an archetype in “a song in the front yard” by Gwendolyn Brooks. The speaker of the poem, a young girl, is exceedingly sheltered. She wishes to venture outside of her front yard into the unknown and explore like the other children who have a more unconventional lifestyle than her. The girl imagines the unknown to be mysterious, filled with adventure, and…

Adrienne Cecile Rich was an American Poet and feminist born May 16, 1929 died March 27th 2012, was born in Baltimore, Maryland and the oldest of two sisters from a middle class family, Rich was educated by her parents until she entered public school in the fourth grade. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Radcliffe College in 1951, the same year her first book of poems, A Change of World, appeared. That volume, chosen by W. H. Auden for the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award, and her next, The Diamond Cutters and Other Poems (1955), earned her a reputation as an elegant, controlled stylist. Adrienne was known to be one of the most widely read and influential poets of the second half of the 20th century",and was credited with bringing "the oppression of women and lesbians to the forefront of poetic discourse. Rich 's poetics depends on a reader 's experience of her poetry. It is an event of cultural engagement in which the poems, resonating with and against each other, urges the reader to test various hermeneutic and ideological stances, and it requires the dialogic interaction among poet, poem, reader, and cultural context. For these reasons, the reader is indispensable to Rich 's feminist poetics. I believe the readers are the ones to perceive the personification in her poetry. Through his/her perception the images can be understood or retranslated into several different possibilities. Such freedom conceded to the reader can be interpreted as a demonstration of the persona’s disengagement from a given ideology. "The publication of Twenty-One Love Poems in 1976 in effect marked Rich 's coming out as a lesbian. "The rules break like a thermometer,/ quicksilver spills across the charted systems/ we 're out in a country that has no language/ ...whatever we do together is pure invention/ the maps they gave us were out of date/ by years...", were all things she wrote that pronounced that she was coming out. In 1970 Rich separated from her husband, with whom she had…

Keynesian economics is based on the flawed theories of John Maynard Keynes. He was a 20th century British economist whose theories were documented in “The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money,” published in 1935. His ideas called for a mixed economy where both public and private sectors are involved, and was a proponent of at least some level of centrally planned inflation.…

This book is engaging from the outset, and deceptively simple. It takes us into the world of a young Sengalese student, Ousmane Gueye, the son of a devout Muslim. Ousmane is more devoted to his mother, Yahe Khady, than to religion or tradition. The first chapters use the framing device of Ousmane’s walk to the university to tell his backstory, how he helped his mother and developed a thirst for knowledge, which was only strengthened after he was snubbed by his flirtatious childhood friend Ouleymatou. Ousmane becomes an academic success, determined to get out of his poor working class district on the outskirts of Dakar.…
