Song of Myself Analysis In section 18 Whitman speaks of failures. He explains that those who fail should still be praised for the efforts. With sincerity, he honors the ones who failed because they had made such valiant attempts. Anyone will fail at some point in their life and it is important to keep thriving and to push forward. I believe that Whitman thinks that you learn a great deal from your failures and I am also a firm believer in this philosophy.
I believe that in section 31 Whitman is displaying a very powerful message. He believes that almost all aspects of life are equal. He is also believes that all of these things around him, even the little things are important and beautiful. I think Whitman does an excellent job of observing his surroundings and taking a detailed note of almost anything he encounters. He also speaks of “distancing” what is behind him. I think it is always important to look forward to upcoming endeavors in life but also remembering past experiences and mistakes made to help improve one’s lifestyle. He speaks of this looking back saying, “but call anything back again when I desire it.
In section 49 Whitman makes several references to death. He makes it seem that he does not think that death is that big of a deal. He believes that death is something that should come to be accepted by all. Everyone will die and it is on them to have a fulfilling live before doing so. He compares death to a new kind of birth. I think this is a very interesting way to look at this aspect of life and quite thought provoking.
