Sonny's Monologue
You arrived at the precinct early in the morning and when you noticed you were the only one there you sighed a breath of relief. You didn’t want any of your coworkers to see you because you hadn’t slept all night. Your phone had rung at 3am just to inform you that your brother had an accident. Hearing this you rushed to be in his side and when the nurses told you he was in serious condition you burst into tears.
You hoped the makeup will cover the signs of how exhausted and sad you felt. And it worked for almost everyone, however as soon as Sonny came into the office he noticed the difference in you. ‘’ (Y/N) is something wrong? Are you feeling ok?’’ You noticed how concerned he looked but decided to lie to him. ‘’ I am fine. Why are you

‘’ I am telling you this mostly because you are very observant. My brother is in the hospital and I don’t know for how long he will need to stay there.’’ You fought back some tears while Sonny gave you a hug. ‘’I am so sorry (Y/N) is there something I can do for him? Or to make you feel better?’’ You were thankful for his proposition but you felt that there was nothing that anyone could do for you. But he already had an idea to cheer you up a little. ‘’Why don’t you come have lunch with me when we have a break? I have to go to the party store next to your favorite sandwich place to buy supplies for my niece’s birthday party.’’ You thought about it but wasn’t sure you would be good company. ‘’Don’t be silly. I would love to have you help me pick stuff out. Besides there is nothing you can do for your brother right now.’’ ‘’I guess you are right. I will come with you for help. Oh and Sonny can we try out some of the costumes while we are shopping?’’ He left a small giggle and replied. ‘’Of course we can. And don’t hesitate to call me if you need anything. I will pray for your brother tonight and I will go to the hospital to visit him tomorrow.’’ ‘’Thank you so much. I will inform you if something changes with him when I will be there after my shift.’’ You both left the break room to go back to your work both feeling a little better, him for having the opportunity to help out one of his friends, and you for having Sonny in your life because everyone needs great friends like

Blood is a fascinating hue. It’s sometimes crimson, scarlet, ruby red, or even bold red. Crimson is the stain that’s painted on my fingers, since I just accomplished a mission-to murder Simon Krell, who continued torturing his family members on a daily basis. Although he continued being a dangerous man, it was so simple to kill him that it occurred to be laughable, all the acting skills I needed was to pretend to act alike his maid and suddenly shoot the filthy person. As I laughed, my storm eyes gazed at the glowing sky that had waves of gleaming dots on it. A silver ellipse remained framed in the inky sky, supported with millions of winking balls of fire.…

The story “Sonny’s Blues” by James Baldwin makes excellent use of multiple literary elements. Namely, I think the writer utilizes symbolism and the nuances of point of view to give the story a deeper connotation that could not be said plainly. The meat of the story is about an unnamed older brother’s relationship and differences with his younger brother, Sonny. Sonny’s aspiration to become a jazz pianist leads him in an opposite direction than his brother, and into a world where the common suffering is dealt with by heroin and music. The fundamental differences between the brothers in their lack of understanding for each other and their gradual acceptance of one another is highlighted and explained by what the symbolism adds to the story and the change in the narrator’s point of view at the end of the story.…

I raced to the health center with a million thoughts running in and out of my mind. “I just hope he’s not hurt.”, was at the front of my mind. I was greeted by one of the health staff who already knew why I was there. “Second room on the left.”, she said with a grim expression. I bursted into the room to see Channing surrounded by other students, many of them were mutual friends. I was immediately relieved to see that Channing was okay, but that relief turned back to fear when I saw the expressions around the room. Some were crying, some stared at the floor, and Nick in particular just looked angry. Channing looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, “I gotta go.” I…
