SOP for MS in Computer Science
I've always been fascinated by research, especially work that benefits common people or the environment. The idea that my efforts may better someone's life or help create a greener planet motivates me. So after a successful career in IT, I intend to pursue my MS in Computer Science at University of Pennsylvania in order to build my research skills and work towards my interests in Computer Visualization, Data Mining, and Software Engineering.

After completing my bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, I was interested in joining the Information Technology industry. So I pursued my dream by enrolling in a six-month Post Graduate Diploma course in Advanced Computing. At the end of the course I got a job in Software Automation Testing with Verismo Networks. After working in Perl for 1 year at Verismo, I joined Siemens Information Systems Limited. There I worked in Automation Testing using Microsoft .Net Technologies. Working with Siemens was both challenging and rewarding, as we did not use any commercially available tool for testing but rather created, designed and developed our own automation scripts, frameworks, APIs to communicate with the hardware, and developed various automated test tools to check system performance, integrity, stability, etc. After 4 years in Siemens, I joined Schneider Electric where I was given the leadership of introducing automation testing into our project. I worked with several teams to understand the project requirements and built automation testing framework using MSUIA and developed testing tools using MS SilverLight and .Net C#.

This strong professional experience has given me a better understanding of the immense potential of technology to materialize innovative ideas --- ideas which not only help solve our toughest problems but also enrich our everyday lives --- by objective research and even humble developments. To create innovative technologies and bring research ideas to life, I will need appropriate problem solving

“ Metropolis” directed by Fritz Lang is a science fiction, futuristic style film. It is about the socioeconomic differences in the futuristic city of Metropolis, between workers and the men who designed and ran the city. Its main character Freder is the son of a man who manages Metropolis and has been privileged to live a very luxurious life until he sees a beautiful women, Maria, who leads him to beneath the city, where all the workers of the city toil. He sees the cruelty and deaths of the workers and the machines that do this to them. He decides that he must become the voice of the workers. All the while this is going on, there is a rivalry between Freders father, John Frederson and Rotwang, an inventor for the city and an archenemy. They both at one time loved the same women, Freders mother, until she chose the richer man, John, and then died during childbirth. Rotwang since then has been on a quest to create a new love, so he creates a robot and once he sees Maria he knows that he is going to transform her into his new robot love. Rotwang and his robot woman encourage the underground workers to revolt which leads to the cities power generator bursting and flooding the whole city. Finally Rotwang and Freder battle for Maria and the people of Metropolis, on top of a cathedral and Rotwang ends up falling to his death. Freder becomes the mediator between the workers and the minds of the city. In the end Freder gets his girl and there is peace between the working class and the upper class. The main message of the film is, “that the mediator between brain and muscle must be the heart”. This illustrates the differences in classes of Germany at the time between the Weimar Republic and the people. The Weimar Republic became the center of power in Germany and during the Republics regime there was much turmoil and “economic chaos.”(Ladd, 88). This is represented in the film between the men who run the city and the lower division of…

I never knew what it was that I plan on doing for the rest of my life, everything was so over whelming, so many careers and majors to choose from. This is something I will be doing for the rest of my life. Knowing this only made choosing a major and career more difficult. During my shadow experience, the engineer explained how he did his job and how he used programming every day. He showed me the different coding languages I need to be familiar with like Java and C#. I was very intrigued by the examples and could not wait to be able to code out my own program. Thanks to this experience, I had an idea of what my career would be: software engineer. I would love to be able to create software that can be used around the world. There is no better feeling than knowing that the work you have helped create is appreciated. That will be my goal for the future…

I have been immersed in the workplace for the past eight years at Goodwell Electronics, Inc., a rapidly growing OEM company. Due to the demanding pace of my schedule, I used my annual vacation time to travel abroad. My travels have given me a deeper understanding of the mindsets of people in different countries as well as the diverse cultural customs and attitudes that exist in different parts of the world. Similarly, my supervisor at Goodwell Electronics frequently traveled overseas in order to expand the company’s business into new markets. I was impressed by his international style of thinking and acting and his strong awareness of global business. My association with this supervisor, as well as my previous travels, has inspired me to pursue a career with an international focus. In the future, I aspire to hold a managerial role in a multinational business; achieving this goal, however, requires that I have an international education and develop a more globalized viewpoint. Your MBA program is a key step in adequately preparing for my future goals.…
