7a) Do you think source C was published by a supporter or opponent of the Weimar Government? I think that Source C was published by an opponent of the Weimar Government because all the way through the source; it criticises the Government and says how it lacks authority. This source shows us that the Government made things worse during the invasion and that they were the blame for the inflation. However, since it was written by Dr.Kapp who hates the Weimar Government then this source could be biased so therefore it’s not reliable. He had hated it when it came into power. Dr.Kapp was a right wing politician, and he was always critical of the Weimar government and this is …show more content…
shown in Source C. In 1919, communist workers' councils seized power all over Germany, and a Communist People's Government took power in Bavaria. And in this source the person who published it is trying to state that the Weimar Republic let the communist east come into Germany was responsible for the divide in Germany which then led the East side to strict Communist since the soviets ruled it. This source is anti-Weimar government as it concentrates precisely on the country’s problems e.g.: social, economic and political and Dr.Kapp says that the Government is incapable of overcoming these problems.
B) Study source D- Explain why the German people were angered by events in the Ruhr in the 1923.
In 1923 Germany defaulted on reparations payments because it was suffering from inflation and simply did not have the money to pay them.
The German people hated reparations anyway and they didn’t think it was fair for them to pay them since it wasn’t only them who fought in the war. The French and Belgians, however, disagreed and invaded the Ruhr region of the Rhineland and started taking German coal and raw materials as payment. This caused the German industrial production to collapse. This must have angered the German people as, not only was it a blatant violation of German sovereignty, but it was also theft and what were being stolen were the only things with which Germany could re-build her industry with. The French felt it was justified but the Germans, who saw reparations as quite the opposite, had no such thought. In the resistance the German government chose to introduce passive resistance, which triggered hyper-inflation and caused even greater suffering for the German people, giving them even greater reason to resent the invasion. The source shows a French soldier standing on and exerting his power over German materials, which cannot resist. This seems to sum up the Ruhr invasion and how according to the Germans, the French were kicking them while they were
down.
C) Study source E- How far does this photograph explain why Germany faced difficulty in 1923?
This source does not exactly show us why Germany faced difficulties but it gives us a general idea of what was cause by hyperinflation. In 1923 Germany had financial difficulties. They suffered food shortages that were triggered by hyper- inflation. This source shows us that the value of German banknotes had become useless so therefore they were given to children to play with. This source is reliable as it shows us that German’s economy came to a massive crisis that lead the Germany currency to be played as toys. The photograph only gives part of the crisis in 1923 it only explains German inflation but Germany also faced many other difficulties in 1923 like the foreignoccupa5ion of some of its territory. This caused economic and well as social problems.
