South America Monologue
Okay!! So I honestly don’t know exactly where to put this but maybe someone here can give me an idea on what the hell my partner and I just saw??

I’m not exactly sure where to start but I guess you need some background info. Uhh. I guess when Lisbeth and I left to travel South America a couple months ago. Since we both only ever studied English and Spanish in school (which kind of soured a lot of Europe for us), we decided to backpack around here for a while and see something different for a change.

We headed off around May and flew into Argentina to volunteer and check out some cool sights. Lis and I are both into weird destinations and like to avoid tourist traps, so Atlas Obscura and recommendations from the people we’ve met have been

Our AirBnb hosts, Damian and Paula, have been super great with the stuff that’s happened and admitted that they didn’t really disclose the quality of the internet well, but they’re cool. That said, I am sure as shit not about to tell them about what happened because my Spanish is not that good yet. Also they’ve seen the little altar we set up in the room and I’m afraid they’d think we imagined this or something. Frankly, it’s just my collection of stones, some palo santo we got from a guy in town, random flowers, and the occasional glass of wine we offer to our relatives or something, so nothing outwardly threatening or whatever. Regardless, to anyone who sees a pentagram and breaks a sweat, this probably could come across as …show more content…
When we got close, we didn’t see our housemates’ car, but that was fine because we were just happy to be back. That was waaaaaaay too much for me.

We went out back to start making food and thankfully after we plugged her phone into our backup battery, we saw that Lis’s data was back so I could finish and submit my article by using the hotspot. I went to the kitchen which was around the back of the house by the forest with Lis to get a pot (it’s kind of a counter with a sink and some shelves that’s outside and covered by an overhang since it gets so hot in this part of the country). We were both rummaging through the stuff when we noticed something even more fucked up than before.

Sorry I can’t describe this well. I’m honestly shaking a bit right now and it was weird even for us.

There was a willow tree in the back of the forest that was like. Climbing its way through the trees. Like the branches were tentacles or some shit. No dogs were barking, no bugs making noise, nothing. We kind of just stood there and watched because what else can you do? I guess we just

I waited a few moments, before shoving my face into the pillow and letting out a painful shriek. Hot tears fell from my eyes and I could only hear one person screaming: me. I can’t believe it. Mom was leaving me for Costa Rica. There must be something I could do to go with Mom. After I spent a few minutes of mourning, I rolled off my bed and hauled my body over to the door and turned the knob.…

As a child, I was raised my whole life in the country side. My mother and I had lived for years in a lonely shack at the edge of the small village we called home. At the very edge of the village was an eerie forest, a forest that seemed to beckon unwary fools into entering it. I was always told as a child to never go near the forest, especially at night. Some people say that a bear lives there, while others say that a serial killer lives there, and some even say that a monster lives there, either way the forest is always portrayed with death. I remember various occasions in which I would wake up for reasons unknown, only to find myself outside in my backyard staring at the edge of the forest, the soft moonlight caressing my bare skin, the crisp night air followed by the refreshing scent of grass. On one occasion I thought I heard a…

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a portuguese presence in my life. When I think back on my childhood, I think of Maria. Up until I was in elementary school I thought Maria was somehow related to me; although I wasn't sure how. As I got older, Maria began to explain to me her roots. She told me how she immigrated to America from her small village in Portugal. Maria explained that she needed to move here in order to provide for her family. She was in search for the american dream for her family. She slowly began to incorporate her portugese ways into my life, whether it was portugese rolls with butter, portuguese soup or texting in portuguese. Although, I learned a lot from Maria I still never fully understood her culture. Portugal…

Some people say that the journey is the destination. That was very true for our trip. We stopped at many wonderful and exciting places along the way, such as an abandoned salt mine in Kansas where we were able to venture deep into the mine. That was a strange and unique experience for me. We also stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma to see the University of Tulsa. I actually got to go play around on their real game field. That was one of the coolest things that I have ever been able to do on a college campus. We also went to see Mount Rushmore for a second time. It was just as majestic and breathtaking the second time around. It truly is one of the…

It’s Monday, December 9th. Today just seems unusual, like something big is going to happen! I wonder what it will be for a split second, then go back to studying for the Latin America quiz we have tomorrow. Mr. Fielder announces what questions we should highlight on our worksheets. I watch him go back to his desk. I look up and out the window, I see the glistening shimmer of fresh snow dancing in the sky. I cherish every second of it, wishing the time would go by slower. As time creeps closer to 12:20 p.m., the more I shudder at the thought of having to go to room 224. I finish making my flashcards, using splendid handwriting, and proper spelling and grammar. The clock whispers 12:18 p.m. in my ear, I turn white as a ghost.…

It stayed calm. Then it looked like it was motioning to the other side of the lake and disappeared into the brush from where it came from. After a quick exchange of looks we decided to continue on in the direction the deer was pointing.…
