A Central Plant services all three major jail campus facilities—the Main Jail, North Annex, and South Annex—and nearly all jail support functions are located in the Main Jail.
The Main Jail has 12 floors, six of which are for housing. Its maximum population capacity is 1,064. The Main Jail was built in 1989 and features administrative offices, an infirmary, and intake and release offices.
The North Annex Jail is a five-story structure, four of which are used almost exclusively for housing. Its maximum population capacity is 1,728. The North Annex was built 1993 and features the Fresno County Superior Courts.
The South Annex Jail is a four-story facility with a maximum population capacity of 499. The South Annex was built in 1941 and features medical, housing, and laundry facilities.
The County also has a defunct Satellite Jail facility located approximately two miles from the other three jails. The jail was constructed in 1986, and consists of five, triple-wide temporary trailers. The building will consist of a four floors, and will provide a mix of small and medium inmate housing units—rated for a total of 300 beds—programming, and administrative space. While the replacement of the South Annex with the West Annex will result in fewer available beds, the new facilities will offer expanded medical, mental health, and drug rehabilitation services for inmates.
