SA’s nicknames are: Festival State, Better by Bike, The Wine State, The Defence State, The Creative State.
Australian people from other states have another different name for SA: Crow Eaters. The reason for that name is because of the symbol on the flag of SA; it looks like a crow on a dinner plate.
It is called The Wine State because it was becoming the dominant wine producing state by the beginning of the 20th century. It has more than 150,000 acres of vineyards. Even the growth rate is slow recently, SA continues to plant more and more yearly. Nowadays it produces from 45 to 55 percent of the nation’s wine. There is a distinct advantage for the South Australia’s wine industry: In fact, the phylloxera – the plant louse that is a pest of vines - has not come to infest the vineyards in SA as it has in some other states. Thanks to that, SA’s wine could be absolutely better than wines in other states. In order to have a thorough grasp of that great position, SA has an continuous quarantine system to make sure the phylloxera will not be able to get into the vineyards. Red wine is the most producing wine of SA State.
It is called The Festival State because a Festival of the Arts is held every two years in the State capital, Adelaide
The reasons of choosing SA are because tourists in the target group have an interest in cultural tourism, wine tourism and loves sight-seeing
