Soutine's Drawing 'Still Life With Rayfish'

The graphite pencil and smooth paper that were used in this drawing, allowed Ingres to cope with repeated erasing when needed, to bring a moderate degree of realism in his character. Ingres line work is rhythmically repeated. The contour lines on the left arm, on the dress are parallel to the lines on the right arm, of the dress. Looking at the lines of the back of the woman’s dress in the mirror, are also parallel to the lines on both arms.
