The Republican faction was the side in the Spanish Civil War that that supported the established government of the Second Spanish Republic against the Nationalist or rebel faction of the military rebellion. The Prime Minister Manuel Azana was an advocate for peace and order as a means to reach a conclusion to the civil war. But not all republicans felt this way; the republican militia used violence to accomplish their aim of defeating the rebellion. Clara Campoamor stated that gunman to shop for groceries would even accompany women. This is biased and could be an exaggeration of the truth since Clara is a republican deputy in parliament and had their interests in mind. There was also a third way the republicans represented their aims; Andres Marquez member of the republican party and was an advocate for reform.
