The first feature that will be discussed in this paper is the word order. Word order is a necessary guide that must be followed because without it reading and writing would become difficult and confusing. There are six different types of word order, the two most common ones are subject-verb-object (SVO) and subject-object-verb (SOV). Consequently, Spanish follows the SVO word order. The first reason is because it was my first language. Other than the fact that the only way I could communicate with my parents was by speaking spanish my parents required that at home my siblings and I could only speak spanish. They did this in order for us to retain part of our culture and be able to communicate with relatives. Another reason they did this was so that we could be fluent in two languages, thus enhancing the possibilities of having a higher paying job in the future. The second reason why I decided to select Spanish as my topic for this paper is because I enjoy speaking, writing, and reading in Spanish. The thing I find most interesting about Spanish is that every word sounds exactly the way it looks. This makes it easy to learn and comprehend. Consequently, one of my majors will be Spanish. Majoring in Spanish is very important to me because I hope to teach Spanish in a Spanish speaking country like Argentina or Mexico in the future. Spanish is a major part of my life and this class has taught me the importance of languages and how easily a language can become endangered. Spanish is still very commonly used among my family members especially with my relatives in Mexico. All of my relatives are fluent in spanish so it is easy for everyone to communicate with each other. My grandparents only speak Spanish, so it is beneficial that I speak spanish so we can have memorable conversations.
