Spanish Narrative

For the first thirteen years of my life I lived by the idea that school wasn’t my thing. When I wasn’t doing well in a subject I would give up and say “I’m just not smart enough”. And since I thought nothing mattered before high school anyhow, I didn’t try very hard. But the reality was I really wanted to get good grades. My older sister and brother, Jackie and Tim, had always done very well in school. I admired that and I wanted to do well also. I wanted to become a good student.
I signed up for mostly honors classes, but I didn’t realize how much work it would take. This was especially true with Spanish class. When it came to Spanish, I thought it should be easy. After getting a few disappointing grades though, I thought about dropping to an easier Spanish class. That felt like defeat, so I stuck with it but continued to receive mediocre grades. However, then I started to realize you couldn’t “figure Spanish out” the day of the test like you could sometimes do in other subjects. You really had to study and you had to know it. I started
They told me they heard it was hard. I was also afraid of taking the class and bombing the AP exam. That would show, after all, that I really wasn’t the student that I wanted to be. But I challenged myself and signed up for the class. I loved the class, and I received a four on the exam. Sure I had to stay up late memorizing 250 word vocabulary lists, but it was well worth it. I proved to myself that if I put in the time I would get the results I was looking for. Those other kids weren’t necessarily smarter than me. They just put in the time. That Spanish class proved to me I could be, or to some extent already was, the student I was hoping to be. I am not exactly sure what my future path is, but my hope for my life is to be truly successful at whatever I choose to do. I am confident that if I set my mind to it, and put in the time, I can become that
