Spanking has become a debatable topic for decades. Some people are in support of it, while others are against it. According to the Farlex dictionary “spanking is defined as a number of slaps on the buttocks delivered in a rapid succession as for punishment.” In reality Spanking should not be considered as a child abuse. It should only be considered an abuse based on how it is issued. Parents are not supposed to beat their child on the head or in the face. If that happens, it will cause injury to the child, which will be termed as an abuse. First of all, it is not any parent will to develop hatred towards his or her own child, but it is the behavior of the kids that will lure their parents to beating them. There are certain kids who are so difficult in a way that, no amount of words or other punishment can stop them whenever they are doing something bad. Their parents
will try everything possible to make them stop, but they will not stop. The only alternative they have left their parents with is to spank them. I believe it is not advisable to beat a child whenever a parent or the guardian is angry. If that occurs and the guardian is not careful, it can cause injury on the child which can also lead to some infection of the child ear. It is always good for the parent to let the child be aware of the offence he or she has committed, and the reason why they are beating him. First of all, I believe when spanking is done slightly with an open hand, it should not be considered as abusive. It should rather be taken as a way of impacting discipline into a child. It can also be the use as a means of showing the minor how to be respectful and know the difference between good and bad behaviors, and their consequences. If a youngster does something bad and he or she is being spanked immediately on the scene. The parents will make him to be aware of the reason for the punishment. It is easy for the child to keep that memory in mind, so that whenever he is going to repeat anything of that sort, he will remember the lashes that were given to him from the previous mistake being made. Even the Holy Bible is in support of the idea of penalizing the child with a rod or a stick. If spanking is so cruel, I don’t think the Bible will be in favor of it. It is said in proverbs 22:15 that “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him” which indicate that spanking is an effective way of training the child on the right path. It is only a few children that can grow to become successful adult without being spanked in their life time. On the contrary, critics say spanking is abusive and can affect the child psychologically. This argument might be true, but not in every situation. In order for the spanking to affect the child mentally, that will depend on how it is administered. I conceive if spanking is done carefully and with love, it cannot have any metal result in the minor. It is only if the parents that they express anger whiles beating their children and use some weapon such as belts or rods that can cause an emotional disturbance to the children. Although it is good to train the child, but not to cause any harm to them that will affect them in their entire life. Also, I believe spanking is a tradition in society and considered effective parenting.
Almost every household has ever used this technique of spanking to discipline a child that is going astray. Whipping might not cause any injury to the kids, if you do it with care and love, not with anger. This method of parenting helps to maintain peace and order in the house. Children see their parent as leaders and respect whatever they ask them to do, they make sure to abide by the rules that were set by the parents. The youngsters are aware that they will be punished by their elders if they go contrary to the rules. However, other opponents also say spanking can make the children become timid, dump and aggressive. This is in the sense that when parents take it upon themselves to be abused spanking as the only means of punishment and training their kids. The children will be use of the cane that will make them careless about anything, and will also be impolite. They will also be misbehaving because they know, that they are only going to be canned by their parents no matter what they
do. Furthermore, I see it thoughtful that spanking should not be considered as abusive because it does not create long-range guilt. This is so because when a child did something wrong and instant punishment is administered to him or her right there. They will know why they are being penalize for. They don’t have to hold anything against their parents or guardian. They will all continue to be living happily after the incidence. On the other hand, some antagonists are also saying that spanking can cause bruises on the victim which can be physically and emotionally harmful. All this will be based on how the punishment is being issued. After all these hours of deliberating on this vital topic, I understand that spanking has both positive and negative effects on child development. I therefore, suggest that spanking should be considered as one of the best and effective methods of training a child that should be helpful to most
