ABSTRACT SPARE PARTS INVENTORY MANAGEMENT WITH DELIVERY LEAD TIMES AND RATIONING
Ya¸ar Levent Ko¸a˘a s c g M.S. in Industrial Engineering Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Alper Sen ¸ May, 2004

We study the spare parts service system of a major semiconductor equipment manufacturer facing two kinds of orders of different criticality. The more critical down orders need to be supplied immediately, whereas the less critical maintenance orders allow a given demand lead time to be fulfilled. For this system, we propose a policy that rations the maintenance orders. Under a one-for-one replenishment policy with backordering and for Poisson demand arrivals for both classes, we first derive expressions for the service levels of both classes and then conduct a computational study to illustrate superior system performance compared to a system without rationing. We also conduct a case study with 64 representative parts and show that significant savings are possible

The trenchless technology consists of a variety of methods, materials, and equipment for inspection, stabilization, rehabilitation, and replacement of existing culverts and installation of new culverts with a minimum of excavation from the ground surface. Some of the methods were available in the early 1900’s and with the addition of new techniques are coming into much more widespread use because of their inherent advantages. Trenchless methods minimize damage to the highway, cause little or no disruption to traffic, have less impact on the environment, and occasionally avoid or minimize the handling and disposal of contaminated soils.…

The usage pattern of these spare parts is highly unpredictable and thus, future demand forecasting is another challenge task for Cathay Pacific. Aviation spare parts are mainly divided into two categories Critical and non-critical. Critical spare parts market is mainly dominated by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) suppliers where as there are many suppliers for non-critical spare parts and the switching option is available. However, this switching option is not recommended as these switching costs are very high.…

One of the major functions of the company is the maintenance of hull and machinery of vessels under its management. Technical superintendents are responsible for the maintenance matters on board their controlled ships whilst managers are responsible for formulating and overseeing policy making and implementation. A major part of maintenance involves the supply of stores and spare parts to the vessel. Each ship is fitted on board with a large number of complex equipments and machinery manufactured by hundreds of different makers and thus spare parts lists for all the equipment and machinery on board, runs into hundreds of pages. With the life of a ship being 20-30 years, several of these equipments/parts become obsolete and even OEM’s close shop during such course. Procuring spares and delivering these on board ships (in good time) that are trading worldwide thus becomes a great challenge for the technical department and in turn for the company.…

MCE maintains spare parts for their product, the “EarthMaster”, for servicing the end-customers. Up to 30 % of this inventory is non-moving since the past 12 months, which is the main concern for the spare parts manager. Considering various factors such as criticality, availability, Lead time consumption etc., and using a Multi-unit Selective Inventory Reduction & Control technique, a strategy for reducing this inventory has been formulated. This method aims to reduce the stock level by at least 15-20%.…
