Special Education Student Analysis
I have a diverse background in education compare to my classmates. I obtained Bachelors of the Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College. While attending John Jay I began working as a Paraprofessional for the NYC Department of Education, in a low-income community with students that suffer from Emotional Distress Disorders. has instilled a love and passion to work hard and help these students achieve their educational goals. My students have influenced me to become a Special Education teacher; being able to break down assignments, watching the understanding dawn on their faces, and then seeing them even explaining it to their classmates brings a smile to my face. It is more than the satisfaction of a job well done; it's knowing that they

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with students of different ethnicities, different socio-economic backgrounds and special education. I have also worked with high school students of various sexual orientations. Working with different people has shaped my identity by becoming aware that we are all different and that is what truly makes society beautiful. It has shaped my self-awareness by connecting me with my true desire in life. That is why I extremely passionate to help children and young adolescents achieve success. My experiences have broadened my understanding of the role in social work in society because I feel one can do so much for others. I have gained enough experience, which allows me to believe that I have the flexibility and adaptability to work with different populations. My previous experience has influenced my understanding of and commitment to social justice because it is sad to witness children with a 30,000-word gap deficit come into my classroom as opposed to children from higher social economic statuses who have a larger array of vocabulary. Then as they get older we see this gap widened regardless of ethnicity based on social economic status and students who are learning English as a second language. I want all children to have the same access to an amazing…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

Before beginning the assessment, I asked the child some basic questions so that I could assess her prior knowledge. I asked her if she knew; what capacity and weight were, how do you measure liquid, what was larger 2 cm or 2 feet and if she could name some objects that came in gallon, pint, quart and cup. I also reviewed any other vocabulary words that were in the lesson.…

I was inspired to work within the field of education by several individuals within my family that have gone on and receive bachelor’s degrees, masters and even doctoral degrees. That has given me the drive to become a teacher; an African-American male teacher who did not have a good up-bringing and who is able to make a difference for those that maybe walking down the same path as I did. Furthermore, I believe I belong here at Bethune-Cookman University because it has been invested within me and I am a diamond…

On Thursday, September 17, I went to Hillcrest Elementary/Visual Performing and Arts School to observe Mrs. Mary Jackson’s music class. When I got there the students were sitting in their chair and learning about the music notes AGF. I saw two Special Education Teachers in the class and they told me that they were here to help the exceptional students. These notes are short notes and high pitch notes. After the lecture, Mrs. Jackson had the student watch and learn the song “Fiddle Eye Fee” in which it had animal puppets singing. Every time the chicken puppet came on, it would sing “Fiddle Eye Fee” and the teacher would sing along and play the xylophone. After the demonstration, the teacher had each row of students play the xylophone. As the…

My professional goal is to become a teacher with hard work and dedication I know I can reach my lifetime goal. For my extra-curricular activities, I have attended the Head Start at Brookhaven Community College where I have volunteered over thirty hours in a semester to get myself prepared for the profession. Going to the local Head Start gave me the opportunity to see if this is really what I want to do for many years. I put myself in a position where I actually enjoyed what I was doing, I had patience which a lot of people don’t have to teach younger kids. I worked with three to five years old, I had to show them I was the leader. In my four years of High School, I have taken my time out to be a leader in my school. I was vice-president freshman…

As one that enjoys helping others, I have to constantly remind myself change can be stressful and many times fear of the unknown can make us second guess our decisions. However, I know everything I have endured in the last couple of years will make me a better school counselor and it all will be worth it. I believe every child should have an opportunity to receive an education and if we want the world to change, we must help others succeed and receive an education. Becoming a school counselor is a life dream of mine. As an undergrad student, I completed my course work in elementary education because in the State I was living in it required you to have two years of classroom instruction in order to be a school counselor. At that time I was unable to do my student teaching because of family obligations and took my degree in another program. Now that my children are older and decisions I make in life are more about what makes me happy, I’m determined to get my degree in school counseling. Not only do I look forward to working with children and helping them with their concerns, I’m also looking forward the work days as well as the vacation days. In order to assist others we as school counselors must also take care of our well-being to, something I don’t get a chance to do that often working in social services. I look forward collaborating with everyone, learning new theories and processes to making…

My mom was the first in her family to graduate college, and my dad never went to college. This caused my parents to place a huge emphasis on education. Attending a private school I really received a great education. Then my dad lost his job and I had to attend a public school which was brand new experience. The classes were larger and there weren't many resources available. For instance, we had to sometimes share books with other students because we didn't have enough for everyone. With this setback we still had amazing teachers who were passionate about teaching. My teachers throughout the years showed me the importance of dedicated and passionate educators. These experiences led to my interest in Teach For America and their mission to strengthen the educational equity m. I think I will be a great fit for Teach For America because I received an education in a low income…

In 2014 I began teaching at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Martinsville, Virginia. It was my second year of teaching and I was eager, “prepared,” and confident. I learned quickly that this was unlike any school in which I had ever taught. Patrick Henry is a predominantly economically disadvantaged school which means, I was not as prepared as I thought. My first year at Patrick Henry was challenging and there were many bumps in the road but, I learned how to navigate them quickly. Teaching at Patrick Henry has been one of the most rewarding things I have done it my life. By obtaining my Maters in Curriculum and Instruction I hope to give back to a school community that I have learned so much from.…
