significant experiences that influence me to serve others. Working with people who have the passion as I do is something I enjoy. Two Sundays a month I serve at my local church. This experience has shown me that any kind of service benefits others and the community. Working in the kid’s room gives surrounding community members a chance to go to service and not worry about their kids. Although this seems like a small task, it helps the parents out a lot. Starting school at Drexel has really exposed me to what civic engagement truly is.
During this time at Drexel it is important to me to continue to serve my community. Coming from a town outside of the city and becoming a citizen I believe I should do my part to improve the city in which I live. I believe it is my responsibility to help improve the neighborhood. I hope to possibly continue to volunteer at Saturday for Seniors or find another institution like it. Elders have a very unique perspective that I admire. My contribution to the university’s goal “to become the most civically engaged university in the United States” would be to continue to do my part whether is be something small like picking up trash around the city or by physically donating my time to help others. Regardless of the situation I hope to help make Drexel proud and make the city
great. Several ideas that pop into my mind when I think about social issues I want to become involved in. I would like to become involved in helping the homeless. Personally, I know that I pay a lot for a meal plan, but end up with ten meal swipes left over every week. So many people in the Philadelphia area go without shelter and food. I hope to find away to donate those meals swipes and take the extra food to food shelters for the people of Philadelphia. For now, my impact would be local. However, it would be great if other colleges donated their excess food and made this local impact turn to become a national impact. I hope and aspire to become a pediatric nurse. The public purpose of my profession would be to provide medical care to the surrounding community. Someone in my profession could donate their time and do medical screenings to the surrounding community. Being a nurse one needs to be passionate about helping others and the community in which they live. I hope to use what I learned at Drexel to help the community in any way that I can.
