The first film is Pulp Fiction. The order that I would categorize is Plot being number one because the stories in the film make the whole story of the two hit men make it the most important. The second being Character, the main characters in the movie make the audience have the thriller and gory experience. I third I would say is diction, because dialogue has humor and intensity. The fourth would be music; I think music makes the audience feel the emotions with the different scenes. Fifth idea, because the theme being comedy and violence. Sixth, is being Spectacle.

Told almost entirely from a young, naive German boy’s point of view, Mark Herman’s The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a hard-hitting Holocaust tale that will render audiences speechless. After arriving home, Bruno (Asa Butterfield) learns that his family will have to move because his father (David Thewlis) achieved a promotion in the Nazi army. Bruno noticed what he believed to be farmers living just past a stretch of woods near their new home. One day, not long after being told not to go near the “farmers,” Bruno leaves his home and heads towards the camp. There he meets Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a young Jewish boy. While trying to understand what is happening in the world around them, the boys become friends. While…

In this story young Bruno has moved to a countryside in Germany with his family. Their house is located near a prison camp for Jewish people waiting to be exterminated. One day Bruno is exploring the area around his house when he finds himself on the fence line of the camp, here he finds Shmuel a young poor boy who is stuck behind these bars. Bruno and Shumel form a friendship which breaks through the boundaries of differences. The reason I have chosen this film/book as something I have seen in real life is because, in both of these film there is something holding one of them back. In ‘The Boy with the Striped Pyjamas’ the bars of Shmuel’s camp hold him back from his dreams of being free and happy, In Garuda di Dadaku the Grandfather is acting like the bars. He is holding back Bayu from his dreams of playing soccer and being happy. Bayu and Shmuel are both discriminated on something about them that they can’t change, Shmuel is Jewish and is put in the camp for being who he is. Bayu is poor and teased by wealthy children of the fact that he hasn’t seen things of such value e.g. soccer balls. Both Bruno and Heri are the influences in helping their friends break the boundaries and help them to reach their…

John Boyne represents the different perspectives of society in World War II through the representations of characters in the fictional novel The Boy in Striped Pyjamas. Bruno’s childlike perspective is represented through his malapropism of “the Fury” and “Out-With” and his reaction to unexpected events, “mouth making the shape of an O”. The irony of Bruno’s narrow view, “it’s so unfair...” confronts the audience with the ignorance of some German citizens to the horrific events of the Holocaust. The characters of “Mother” and “Grandmother” are utilised by Boyne to represent the differing perspectives of the society during the Holocaust. Grandmother exercises constructive disobedience in dissenting with the Nazi regime and perceiving Fathers role as “a puppet on a string”. This is juxtaposed to Bruno's Mother through the euphemism of "[Bruno] had never known anyone to need quite so many medicinal Sherries" showing her complacency to do nothing about the knowledge of the concentration camp. Boyne positions an older audience to see the dangers of naivety and the cost of inaction.…

In order to do this, we must first establish what the main characteristics are for film noir and science fiction respectively. These can be divided into visual style, structure and narrational devices, plots, characters and settings and finally worldview, morality and tone. The reason why it is important to know these genres, is because genre consists of a set of codes, that are recognized and in turn understood by both filmmaker and audience. This set of codes, once recognized, leads to expectations of a certain style of mis-en-scene, narrative, type of characters etc. that ultimately affects the meanings found in the film (Doll, 1986, 89).…

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, shows what life was like in Germany when the Nazis were taking over. The film tells us about two young boys with two different lives. The Boy in the Striiped Pyjamas is useful about some topics based in that time however it can also be unreliable in others. The Holocaust was mainly a target for Jewish people, black people, homesexuals, gypsies and the physically disabled, the mentally disabled and those involved in resistance movements against Hitler.. The Jewish people were the main traget and this chatastrophe started when Hitler came into power. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a novel by John Boyne. This novel is set during World War 2 and explores themes such as prejudice, racism, war, innocence and friendship. What sets it apart from other novels is that it uses a third person limited point of view, and mostly depicts events as they are seen by a young and naïve boy. This was one of the main narrative conventions that engaged me in this novel.…

For example in the text it says that, "for the older reader, of course, Bruno’s innocence comes to stand for the willful refusal of all adult Germans to see what was going on under their noses in the first half of the 1940s.” For younger readers, she argues, the story’s slow release of details “becomes an education in real time of the horrors of ‘Out-With,’ known to the grown-ups as Auschwitz" This shows us that the story could be taken as adults ignoring the events taking place around them or as a slow release of events in real time in Auschwitz. What Hughes says helps support the claim made in the Point essay by showing how historic fiction could benefit people in real life. All in all, Kathryn Hughes' view of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is that it can mean different things for adults and for…

As a result of this common time period, many characters in these types of novels are similar, i.e. German soldiers, Hitler and Jewish people. ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ follows this convention because it is based in the 1940’s during the Holocaust period and involves typical characters of this time like Bruno’s father who is a Nazi, and Jewish people who live at the camp, next door to Bruno’s home. You can tell that this novel is based in this time-period throughout this book, for example when Shmuel, a young Jewish boy, says “my birthday is April the fifteenth, nineteen…

The film, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, delivered an incredibly stellar performance from the main character, Bruno (played by Asa Butterfield) and the rest of the supporting cast. Revealing the horrifying event of the Holocaust through the innocent eyes of a child, the film is one that powerfully encourages myself and other viewers to be enlightened of the many tragedies that occurred during this time period. Set during World War II, the story is focused on the viewpoint of 9-year-old Bruno. Bruno is the son of the newly promoted commandant of an Auschwitz concentration camp ruled by Nazis. Because of his fathers promotion, he and his family are forced to move to Poland and start a new life there, as opposed to living in Berlin, Germany.…

It was different to see how the culture in france differs from the united states. When Amelie is walking around in the streets, everyone is so friendly and willing to greet one another. Also when they initially greet others it is a double cheek peck as opposed to a handshake or hug. The music was very instrumental in the sense of types you would find in musicals or plays. This gave the movie a more “personal” feel. The french types of music that differs is they seem to like the violin and accordion very much.…
